Description last year, when i was studying for finals, i put my pen down to get up and get a drink. when i came back, this idea sprung to mind, and i photoed it. in case you're wondering, the focused equation is ampere's law of current in a wire, followed by the loop version of that equation.

i guess that this piece exemplifies the fact that mathematics and science really can be beautiful and elegant, something that is often overlooked. the elegance of a well-constructed formula can be breathtaking in its application.

anyway, comments and suggestions would be well appreciated!

What the hell is a DOF?

Was the blurriness a manip, if not, thats impressive

I really like the concept... kind of hints at a "OH! NOW I GET IT!" kind of 'pops out at you, finally grasp it' thing...

I completely agree. I wouldn't mind seeing a little more of the actual formula, but the perspective and DOF you've chosen is good.

i think part of what truly makes this image is the handwriting. for some reason, it fits perfectly. in my mind i'm trying to imagine the same image with different handwriting, and it just doesn't work. who knows. the depth of field (or lack there of) is great, as is the subtle color. good job.

i love this!!
reminds me of the first time i looked at the cover of "A Logical Approach to Discrete Math" - the notorious grey book for computer science students at my university. the blurriness in your shot really gives off that "i've been at this for wayy too long and i'm going to pass out" vibe.
