Description “So…” I gesture broadly into my room, large but claustrophobic for all of the furniture lining the walls. “This is my room.”

“I know.”

“It’s kind of obvious, isn’t it?”

“I would have been able to tell, even if you had not led me here.” He said confidently. I wondered vaguely where that confidence came from.

“How, though?”

Azure’s answer came readily, “Just judging by the colors in the room—”

I cut him off solemnly, “No, how do you know all of these things that you shouldn’t know? My lunch table—not to mention my lunch itself—my name, my house, you seemed to know my mom already…”

His expression turned to something unpleasant, it was pained. I couldn’t tell if he was angry or depressed; it didn’t matter, he wasn’t happy. I didn’t want to be the one to put that on him.

“Look, I understand if you don’t want to tell me, but please… I’m bumping around in the dark, here, Azure.”

His eyebrows seemed to move to a more readable position, I could see now that he was on the verge of tears. I especially didn’t want to be the one to put that on him. I nearly tried to rebuild the situation again, but he spoke first.

“You… have no idea how badly I want you to know how… and why and when, for that matter… I… I…” I reached out to set my hand comfortingly on his arm. For a few minutes we just stood there while his shuddering slowed. I heard his breaths gain length and depth, and finally he spoke again, “If you would have me… I would like to hold your hand in that dark, Libby.”

Blankly, I looked to his forlorn, composed face. I could not bring myself to turn him down after I’d seen him so broken all of the sudden. I nodded once, a fierce gesture. His smile slowly returned, and a few moments later, he lightly pulled his arm free. Shooting me a dazzling grin, he turned and flew down the stairs with an agility that I could never hope to match.

“Your house is lovely, Miss Amat,” he said as he exited.

I honestly couldn’t tell which one of us he was talking to.
