Description
Azure became an obvious fixture of my life pretty much immediately. It seemed so natural. Our relationship was so easy. I felt like karma was finally giving me something worth having. I almost felt guilty at regarding him so harshly, for that first day or so.
The time seemed to fly, but when I stopped to see how long it’d been, I found that two weeks had gone by. It didn’t seem like nearly enough, Azure laughed at my expression.
“What? Have you got something you’d like to say?”
“Ah, you’re so lovely when you’re upset.” He stifled his giggles for my sake, which I appreciated.
“That’s not a good answer, Azure.”
The handsome boy beside me shook his head with a smile, “By the way, we are about to be late to class.” I looked around to see that he was right; there was almost nobody out still chancing that they’d make it to sixth period on time.
“Mr. D won’t count us tardy, will he?”
“Should we go and find out, then?”
I thought about this. Whenever I went to art with Azure, I managed to look more like some lame duck than ever. He was completely amazing with everything art-related. I’m sure if you’d handed him a chainsaw and a block of ice, he could make a sculpture with beauty enough to blind. If we skipped class, it’s not like he’d fall behind at all. Besides, we still had, what, twenty-two weeks to finish one stupid project? We had some wholly unnecessary amount of time like that.
“We could just sit here through sixth period. It’s just another lunch.” His hand moved from the small of my back to make an extravagant “I’m thinking,” gesture.
The warmth is replaced there, and an ecstatic expression takes over the speculative one. “Some time alone without a rude, old man sounds like time well spent.”
I return a grin, settling sideways into his nigh-covered body. It seems far too warm, considering the temperature and simple fact that he isn’t wearing the blazer of his uniform. I’ve shamelessly donned my insulating vest every morning, its comfortable brown saving my live on a daily basis.
His head rested on mine peacefully for several minutes before anything interrupted our solitude.
Azure tensed up minutely, trying not to let me notice. “Hmm, what’s wrong, Azure?” I asked casually. I’d come to realize that asking things of any significance made him uncomfortable, like his tongue physically wouldn’t let him answer.
“Nothing, nothing,” he soothed easily. He was still looking past me, though. I turned to try and see what he was seeing, but Azure intercepted me in a way that I should’ve seen coming: it wasn’t noteworthy, but he kissed me lightly. This was a first, and yet… it felt familiar. This was strange, considering I’d never been kissed, before.
Well played, Azure.
I was completely distracted from the other issue, whatever it was. “What… was that for?” I hesitantly inquired.
“It seemed appropriate to me; was I wrong?” I shook my head quickly, the furious blush only just reaching my face.
“It was delightful, but why?” He seemed rather pleased with himself at that.
“Keeping my distance, I will not do. Leaving you without any hints… I cannot do.” He said this quietly, but the happiness of his expression was not lost. I was glad for that.
I accepted his insufficient explanation even more readily than I usually would have, “Alright, alright,” and rested my head on his soft—but muscled—side.
Traitorously, I glanced back to where Azure looked before, seeing a golden-blonde boy looking at us in horror. He caught my gaze for a split second (.09372 seconds, to be exact) and turned away immediately. How odd.
