Probably because male protagonists are overused, it seems like game makers always assume that there can never be a female role because they throw them under the stereotype of being a "Damsel in Distress that needs saved by a sexy muscular badass of their choosing" X_X

Exactly, also, i'm getting tired for rpgs who put female chara in unrational sexy armor, like, is there no way for female character to be badass without exposing their body? i'm not saying it's wrong, but, I don't like the way they picture female chara like they only assets is their body X_X

They did that with Lightning in Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns by giving her a Miqo'te uniform, and gave Rikku nothing but a bikini top, the shortest skirt you could possibly find, and thong straps with ankle boots and an orange scarf. X_X;

See? The first version of Lightning is not bad tho, but the rest is.... yeah, like that.
Ugh, when they will add a really good female chara these days? Ubisoft have tried by creating Aveline, but... it's not that good either...

I don't know, I almost wonder the same with male leads because if they're not muscular and have a beard they all have that cold dark past with the cliche lone wolf personalities because they're "oh so damaged", I mean it was realistically possible with Cloud and Squall, and IX was truly a spin-off from the usual because Zidane was a ladies man, which I thought was funny considering the script he had. At least with Final Fantasy they strayed from that in XIII by having nearly all characters happy and optimistic and then slowly go down hill from there which was a nice change of pace.
