"I guess we will go left" Flint responded as Ion hopped off the rock he was sitting on, "ok then, I guess it is settled, we are going left" Ion said as Flint got back to his feet and Zephyr nodded in agreement, "lead the way." The boys continued down the path through the forest as the terrain started to cover the dirt road they were walking on, "are you sure this was the right way?' Zephyr asked, "the road looks like it has not been used in many years..." "sure I am" Flint said with a small smile, "at least I think we are" he thought as Ion put a hand on his shoulder, "looks like the right path to me, remember the floof dragons have more or less so walled themselves off from the rest of the world, a more unused path would make more sense then one that is kept up" Ion said which brightened Flint's spirit. "Ok sure, but it is not too late to turn back and see what is in the other direction" Zephyr cut in, "or even go back and ask Flint's..." "didn't you say would would trust Flint's judgement?" Ion snapped back, "well yes but" Zephyr tried replying but Ion cut him off, "but nothing, he is a better then either you or me are and one of the best in his tribe, there is no reason to loose faith in him now" Ion said which caused Zephyr to sigh a bit. "Look how about this" Flint spoke up, "why don't I go track ahead for a bit and see what I can find while you guys stay put for a minute, that way I can see if there are any marking that may help us or if we may be going up a dead end" Flint continued. "Yes that might be a good..." Zephyr started replying but Ion cut him off, "no I don't think that is a good idea" Ion cut in, "best not to split the party up" "well why not?" Zephyr replied back with a smirk on his face, "were you not the one who said trust Flint's judgement?" "Well yes but this is a bit different..." Ion answered back, "is it really?" Zephyr responded, "you said Flint is the best tracker, so let him track without our interference, he is not going too far and that way we can not loose any time on a wrong decision" Zephyr continued. "Ok, ok" Ion replied, "alright Flint track ahead but only go maybe five minutes out, keep a straight path as much as you can and get back to us within ten, got that?" Ion said in a more leaderish voice, "got it Fang!" Flint responded doing his hand on chest bow before heading forward on his own leaving Ion and Zephyr alone by themselves. A few minutes passed before the sensation in the air changed, as Ion and Zephyr felt many eyes looking upon them, getting themselves back to back, the two boys readied themselves as shadows came from the trees, they had been surrounded. "You think you can take us?" Ion called out in a cocky tone as Zephyr made a nervous smile, "ya... ya! We are no pushovers!" Zephyr called out though in a more unsure tone but kept a serious face, "you know boys, with only two of you now, I would cut the act" one of the shadows said as he came into focus, "not like it would have mattered anyways." "Must be their leader" Ion thought as became a bit more nervous, "wait they knew there were three of us... Ion they must have been following us... Flint, he may be in trouble" Zephyr whispered to Ion as Ion nodded, "don't worry, again Flint is more capable then you think, I am sure he is fine" Ion whispered back, "I wouldn't be so sure of that if I were you" the bandit leader said interrupting as he overheard Ion and Zephyr's whispers, "tell you what, you surrender to us now and we promise no harm will come to the three of you" the leader continued, "at least for now" he continued in thought. "Tell us what did you do to him" Zephyr called out but Ion motioned to hold back, "they are lying, Flint is still fine out there and will return shortly, let just hold back for now until we can sense his position and then attack" Ion said quietly into Zephyr's ear, "are you sure about this? What if they do have him, it would be safer to surrender and if they are lying, Flint can rally his tribe to get us" Zephyr retorted, "no, we fight, trust me Flint will be here any second now" Ion answered back, "Ion please, if we fight we might have to... we will have to..." "to kill?" Ion finished Zephyr's sentence, "it would have to happen at some point in time, we want to be Hunters don't we, can't just keep hunting beasts down, keeping people safe and clearing bandits out is part of that and besides, these bandits are attacking us and we have to protect ourselves." "Please Ion, reconsider" Zephyr said one last time as the leader stepped closer as the boys readied themselves, Ion looked back to Zephyr and then took in his surroundings before looking straight at the leader, "so boys, what will it be?"
