Description This concept is a private commission for my friend which i ve done with great pleasure, trying to ensnare in it many symbols dear to his mind. First two versions are unfinished projects. The third version was on my friend liking more then the others and therefore is the only one finished.

So there are present here the symbols of light and darkness/ good and evil/ right and wrong in the "bird sun wing/ dragon night wing" and "yin/yang, white feather/dark feather from the scale" depictions (of course as human specie subjective point of view onto existence).

The symbol of keeping balance in all things lays between the jaws of cockatrice holding the scale of balance. Another ancient symbol of keeper of celestial and divine spark, is the ankh (on the lower jaw of cockatrice).

The runes on cockatrice head represents the hindu name Maya, of an ancient demon Mayasura the chief architect of the people of the netherworld - see wiki - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayasura
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
[wiki- Cockatrice is a mythological creature with magical abilities that include turning people to stone or killing them by either looking at them β€”"the death-darting eye of Cockatrice" touching them, or sometimes breathing on them.

It was repeated in the late-medieval bestiaries that the weasel is the only animal that is immune to the glance of a cockatrice. It was also thought that a cockatrice would die instantly upon hearing a rooster crow and according to legend, having a cockatrice look itself in a mirror is one of the few sure-fire ways to kill it. The cockatrice as mentioned in Isaiah 14:29 in several bible translations has the ability through his fruit to produce "a fiery flying serpent".

Like the head of Medusa, the cockatrice's powers of petrification were thought still active after death.]

Very interesting to see the other versions. Almost the very same components, but placed differently. I hadn't ever thought about playing around like that before. Turned out beautifully! Love the head especially

IosifChezan In reply to Vyrilien [2012-07-28 21:01:39 +0000 UTC]

Thank you, dear Vyrilien! I love to work on as many layers i remember to add when drawing They give me a lot of freedom to try many dynamics in front of my eyes, and chose the one that impress me most. In this case, my chose was the first version (V.1), but my friend had in mind other dynamic of legs especially, and he loved the third one, which i finished for him with great pleasure

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Vyrilien In reply to IosifChezan [2012-07-30 10:50:37 +0000 UTC]

I should try that! I usually work in one layer, so it's difficult to change things after. I should learn from you, haha.

I personally really like the movement of V1 and V2, but the colour contrasts of the two different wings look beautiful in the third version

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

IosifChezan In reply to Vyrilien [2012-07-30 18:09:04 +0000 UTC]

Of course, same do I like the third version because it's the only one finished. The first two are only maybe 65% done
