But at the same time, he is the son of Sunburst and Starlight. Sunburst may not be good at magic, but he was smart. And Starlight was a prodigy... plus both were unicorns; making Blaze a pureblood unicorn with two magically inclined parents to raise him; both knowledge wise and skill wise.
Solar is only half unicorn since her father is a pegasus and she earned her magic skill on her own since Sunset wasn't the most skillful of her class.
So its only ntural Blaze is a bit confident about himself, he IS powerful. He just wants good competition and sees potential in Solar and wishes to compete against her
