(Fluttering to a soft landing on the balcony, Twilight Sparkle landed after her journey back from Canterlot. For a few moments, she just stood there in silence, staring into her castle corridoor. She was not ready for this, but she knew it had to be done. Taking a deep breath, Twilight entered her home)

Fluttershy: *Ears perk as she hears Twilight's hoofsteps approaching* You're back! I couldn't help it, I waited here for you. H-how did it go?

Twilight: *stares at her friend with distant eyes* It's really him.. And this is something I need to face alone..

Fluttershy: ... Are you sure about this, Twilight?

Twilight: I have to.. He deserves to know the truth.

(Slowly, Twilight approached the door to her sons room. She stared at the hardwood door longer than she intended to, hesitant to knock. She didn't want to do it, but she knew better than to walk away from it)

Twilight: *shakingly knocks on his door* Crescendo..? Are you in there, hun?

(After a few seconds of silence, hoofsteps head towards her from behind the door and it opens)

Crescendo: Mom, hi. What is it?

Twilight: I, um.. *pins her ears down and sighs looking away* I need to talk to you.

Crescendo: Oh, uh.. alright then, one moment. *turns back towards the scroll he was reading and closes it up*

Twilight: *enters the room slowly and closes his door* You were studying?

Crescendo: Just a few minor spells; I am checking in on Solar Flare tomorrow.. Seeing how her lessons with Blazing Ember have been going; thought I'd show her a few cool tricks I've learned! *smiles proudly but then frowns seeing the distraught look on his mother's face* Mom? Are you alright?

Twilight: I'm, um... Crescendo, hunny, I need you to understand something.

Crescendo: Of course, anything.. What's going on?

Twilight: You know everything I tell you, and do for you, is because I love you and want to protect you... Right?

Crescendo: Yes... Mom, just tell me what happened.

Twilight: I.. I received a letter. A letter from somepony who once meant a great deal to me; Actually, I suppose he still does in a sense... But not the same as it once was.

Crescendo: *looks at his mother with a concerned, puzzled expression* Who?

Twilight: His name is Shadowlock.. He was a criminal here in Equestria, a long time ago; before I even met Flash. My friends and I, we pursued him.. He tried to erase history by literally erasing the history written in scrolls and books.. Because he feared a darkness would return if he allowed the history of it to remain. He wasn't truly evil, he was just scared.. Scared of losing himself to that darkness, scared of what it could do to Equestria if it returned somehow... He was just looking at it the wrong way, and acting upon that mistake.
He and I shared a lot of time writing back and forth to one another as he continued his journey, we... we grew very close.

Crescendo: Mom.. is this an ex-lover of yours or something? It's ok, I know you had other interests before you got with dad; everypony does.. Why do you feel the need to tell me about him now?

Twilight: *stares into her sons eyes. A long lingering silence hovers between them, and before Twilight could even open her mouth again, tears begin dripping down her cheeks* Crescendo... he is your father.

Crescendo: *feels a piercing pain shoot through his chest and freezes up at his mothers words, silent in shock while his brain tried to decipher what he had just been told* My.. what are you-

Twilight: Crescendo, I am so sorry I never told you the truth! I didn't think... Nopony knew he was still alive! He disappeared for YEARS, he stopped writing to me so suddenly.. Nopony knew where he was, or how to contact him.. We thought he was dead!

Crescendo: ... So you.. lied to me?

Twilight: Crescendo, I had to-

Crescendo: NO! *screams and snaps at her* No.. you didn't! All these years... ALL THESE YEARS?!

Twilight: I.. I'm sorry, I-

Crescendo: What? Did you think I wasn't mature enough to handle it?! Did you think if I knew he was a criminal that I would take after him?! Just like everypony in this damned village?! *tearing up now* You know, that explains so much... Why Nova was the favorite and why everypony whispered and gossiped behind my back!

Twilight: Crescendo, that's not true!

Crescendo: Yes it is! Why would you feel the need to LIE TO ME if it wasn't?!

Twilight: Because I love you! Crescendo... I lied to protect you.. You were; you were so determined to find your father when you were a colt; You kept saying you were going to find him, that you'd bring him home... I couldn't- *takes a shuttering breath* I couldn't let you know he was dead.

Crescendo: But he's NOT.

Twilight: I didn't know that!! Nopony did.. I'm sorry I lied, but I didn't want you to feel the pain I was feeling. I saw your happiness and your spirit, despite what everypony in Ponyville thought about you and your birth father, and I didn't want that to go away.. So I lied.. to save you from the pain of learning what death was at such a young age..

Crescendo: Then why'd you tell me he abandoned us instead? How is that any better than death?! Instead of growing up knowing I had a father who cared about you, you lie and tell me he was a no good asshole who leaves his family behind?! How is that better?!

Twilight: I don't know! ... I-It was wrong of me.. It just made sense at the time, I don't know why- It just did... *hangs her head in shame*

Crescendo: You're wrong, it makes no sense.. I can't believe you of all ponies-

Twilight: Please... please forgive me...

Crescendo: If you lied about something like THIS, how can I trust that you havn't been lying to me about anything else?! *screaming again*

Twilight: Crescendo, I'm not... this was my only mistake, and I know it was a mistake! You think this is easy for me?! *looks back up and gasps in fear*

Crescendo: Oh what now?! You remember something else you're hiding from me?

Twilight: ... Your.. your eyes..! *tears pouring again in shock*

(The anger Crescendo felt filled his entire body with a white hot rage; and with this rage came a new power. A power that was causing his eyes to begin to glow. Twilight recognized that white glow; it was similar to that of Shadowlock's eyes when performing his erasing spell.)

Twilight: You have his power..

Crescendo: *not being able to see his own eyes, Crescendo growled and shook his head* I've had enough of this..! *turned and ran out of the room*

Twilight: Crescendo! Wait..!

(Crescendo didn't stop running. He slammed through the doors and ran out towards the edge of Ponyville. When he finally stopped running, he tried to control his anger and slammed his hooves against the grass)

Crescendo: *slams into the ground repeatedly, angry and confused. Anger quickly turns into pain as he collapses to the ground in loud sobs* What is happening... This can't be true.. She couldn't have lied to me all this time.. This has to be a nightmare! *covers his head with his hooves and opens his eyes, notices he was staring into the pond, and gasps. He saw it. The white glow coming from his eyes. This had never happened before.. he stared into the water and watched with shakey hooves as the white glow began to fade* Who... who am I *Crescendo lets a tear roll down his cheek again, and hides his face between his hooves, not wanting to stare out at his reflection again*.
