Description A later Roman or early Byzantine infantryman.
I think it's surprising to many people that Rome, as a civilization, did not expire in 476AD when Romulus Augustulus was removed from power but lived on for nearly another millennium as the Byzantine Empire. In all the Roman civilization lasted for some 2206 years; an astonishingly prolific society by anyone's standards.
Even the Western Roman Empire was not truly destroyed all at once, as in truth by 476 the differences between the Romans and the “barbarians” living inside the western empire were so minimal that in reality it was not truly destroyed but more accurately “graded” or morphed into the conglomerate of kingdoms and duchies it would later become.
Then again, “The Decline and the Gradual Altering of the Western Roman Empire Into Non-Roman Nations” does not easily go on marquees and books.

East  lived on for nearly another millennium as The Roman Empire(also as Roman Republic-this name also continued in use)."The Byzantine" Empire is artificially fabricated term(invented from highly biassed reasons) which was used for the first time only 100 years after fall of Constantinople to the Ottoman Turks and not more widely used in the world until split of 19 with 20th century.

Yeah it was my first illustration using art-markers. I saw a set in an art-store one day and thought, "Hmmm, I've always wanted to use them." And this is the byproduct of that spontaneous decision....
