Description I just announced in my journal that the Hero Factory comics I drew for DC is now out, here: [link]

Now, being a first time client for me, I have to stick to the references. But if I were given the artistic freedom, I'd rather draw them like the art style I have come to love. Ta-dah!!!

Although given the fact that not everyone is fond of this art style, I think it is a good decision not to let me draw it my own way. Hehe! ^_^"

Jesus, this was YEARS ago! 0_o I'm not even that much into Hero Factory anymore. But uh.....She's turquoise in colour, has silver beads for hair (like dreadlocks) but I always got stuck on the actual design for her armour. I never did grow up with Lego, so I only had the show for reference when making my OC, Princess Serenity Veros. But I was heavily inspired by the animal themed armour upgrade from the witch doctor episode of the series. Hence her two aliases...
Helpless but cheeky Spanish princess of the Quatros galaxy...
And the famed Wild Knight archer.

Though I don't recall if I ever did add an animal theme to her armour based on what inspired her creation....No, I think I just made it as plain as the first upgrade seen in the series. But it's up to you. The OC is long gone now, buried under 6 years of cringe. XDΒ

Um......I just described it there. But really.....I don't want art of her. I'm quite happy the way she is. And besides, I had a look at your gallery....I do believe you could use a little more practice. So thank you for your generosity, but I'm good.

I really think your style for these characters would help get across the movement of the robots better, since visually it looks far smoother than copying the toy exactly.

The company seems to be really fond of making the hero factory (and later bionicle movies) series look just like the toys in the episodes and comics, which can be distracting. I wish they had let you do the comic in this style since Stormer actually looks like a character here rather than just a toy. Even though it's a toy company it's kind of unusual to constantly see these guys as toys. Still, great job overall I really like how this looks ESPECIALLY the arms and chest! The arms on the toy are way puny.

My thoughts exactly. Aside from more accurate and dynamic body movement, I think it will be easier to give the characters more emotion, too. The toy refs are a bit too stiff and boring sometimes given its mechanical limitations.

Oh man, I was so ecstatic when I found out you did the lineart for the new HF comic. Astig ng mga ginawa mo para sa K-Zone!

Both styles rock, IMO. Set-style is playing it safe a bit though. Try doing some test sketches of the last comic in this one.

Thanks!!! In fairness, I didn't really show them this style of artwork because (1) they are a new client (and not a small one either) so I'd better be a good boy, and (2) I'm sure Lego/DC wanted it to be close to the toy look because they were tying it up with the launch as we have seen already.

Maybe someday if they require me to experiment with the look of the characters, I'll show 'em this piece.

Well. your style matches the set very well. it's like what that movie company is doing with the series of Hero factory. they're giving the characters more style. while staying on the toy-style. giving them like equipment and other things. I mean. they even give them eyebrows and teeth. Im wonder. LEGO/DC let them to modify the characters (without going into extremes) but they don't let you do the same with the comics?. I found that a bit unfair.
they got magazines, a page and a series to promote the toys. No need to be all set-set-set in comics.

Oh? They're making a movie? Isn't it in 3D? I gotta see that. Anyway, maybe someday I will try to convince them to change into this new art style in case they extend the comics series.

there are some pics of the series on the net. you could even take reference of the designs of he series. like the belts or even the shifting helmets that let the heroes show their faces. I would love to see it in your style. Since I saw your Marauder Megatron I am watching ya. without even using the Watch+ option

I've always loved the Bionicle series, and I was afraid that Hero Factory wouldn't live up to the legend of Bionicle.

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it. I heard that some people would rather stick with Bionicle. Hopefully, as the HF story progresses, it will one day become a worthy successor to the Bionicle line.
