Maybe you should try to use the clone stamp tool in darken mode, it's really more efficient than the heal tool. It will try to find the lighter pixels and dark them without copying paterns.
Can be worth a try, if you had not did it of course ^^

Or maybe, other idea hehe, just try to burn it down.

on second though, try the lighten mode instead of the darken ^^

When you pick up the clone stample, under the top menu bar you can change the blend mode of the tool.
Honestly, only darken and lighten works.
As i said, darken is for darkening light things on a dark background, lighten mode does the opposite. Really really useful ^^
