I like your design for older Scoots, and awesome CM! Even if someday she will be able to fly, we know what it is that she does best, that no one like her will ever do. And it's a good portrayal; their talents aren't the same, but Scoots can still admire her "big sister" even though she has her own path.
And yeah, that episode was something. From running gag to something that may mean she'll never fly. But I personally hope they don't focus too hard on her flight problem; she's so much more than 'the pegasus who can't fly;' just as it is in the episode, the worry that she'll never be able to fly is a nice addition to a well-rounded character, even if everypony else basically wants to canonize the fanfics.
Someday, Scoots. Or maybe not. But you're still the best filly of them all.

Wait, she DIDN'T get her flag-waving cutie mark???
I think there's a lot of improvement apparent in this piece compared to some of your stuff before that hiatus. You must have been getting in a lot of practice that never made it to the web!

Yeah though to be fair the TwiShy stuff was all done in a day XP And those prints for the convention was me trying new styles and new ways of drawing, though I am sad about how Luna/Celestias bodies turned out so I hope to revisit that one and redo it. But yeah I was drawing a lot more on the side for friends/sketches etc. Im hoping to draw/post a lot more this year, my hiatus came from lots of things, but this pokemon month (though I still need to finish it) gave me a HUGE confidence boost, showing me that I CAN do awesome things even in just a day! And the more I do it the better I'll be. I guess I just get discouraged, thinking I cant do some of the great things artists I watch do, but I see that thats not true. I CAN in fact do that, I just actually need to DRAW more XD, the more I draw the better I will get.

For me, getting over the "just sit down and DRAW" barrier is the tough part. I imagine most pros have that sweated out of them through art school.

Nope it still happens even after art school XD. A habit like that takes work to break.

Darn. I figured art school was like boot camp. They'd make you sweat out those bad habits.

LOL you do learn good habits and some artists overcome them, but no just like any work you are told to do over and over you may feel burnt out and not want to. Again, every artist is different and will work differently. Some can be focused enough to sit down and draw, some work obsessively, some can only work when inspiration hits, some are emotionally invested and can't work if they are stressed. Art school does give you advice on how to get more use to drawing and to do so every day. One professor of mine I admired immensely said to always sit down for 40 min. minimum a day and draw; you didn't have to finish it, you could just sketch a bunch of things, finish or just start making a finished product, but for 40 min. you would draw. Sadly I haven't been as good with it, since life tends to distract me a LOT and when you are in the industry somehow, it can start to feel like a chore to come home after working all day on some art thing, and then draw some more! XD Lots of professionals go through this and sometimes only inspiration can pull them out of it.
TLR- Art school is just like any other school with many different professors. It is a bootcamp in a sense to get you better at your craft, but its not like going in the army where they intensly break bad habits. They suggest and lead you in the right direction, teaching you and inspiring you and getting you better at art as a well, an art. But like all colleges, they see you as adults and its up to YOU to break your own bad habits. They will guide you and try to help you break them, but its up to YOU to fix it. Because as professors they know all artists are different and work differently, because they are artists as well XD. But college is all the same, you paid your money, so if you choose to waste it and not even GO to class, it's no skin off their backs. You go cause you WANT to not cause they MAKE you.

Lovin' the way you drew Scoot's wings omg <33 That is one kickass cutie mark too, and I'm thinking her actual one [IF SHE EVER GETS IT WOW] will look probably very similar xD
I was hoping for maybe a LITTLE more focus on why exactly Scootaloo can't fly; the only other example of a peagsus that couldn't fly when young was Fluttershy but all of the other young ones shown pretty much all fly. I suppose the answer is simply her wings aren't strong enough, but I wouldn't mind getting a canon reason as to why she isn't getting the flight training that she needs since "you just have to wait and see" seems odd to me.
But I did really enjoy the characterization this one had; with Scoot NOT overly fangirling over Rainbow, and with Rainbow being so sweet with the CMC. Four for you Rainbow Dash, you go Rainbow Dash.

I agree, I would like them to go full out and say she is disabled. It would be nice to have a disabled character, but if its just her being a late bloomer I'm fine with that too. I would just prefer the former so I would be slightly disappointed they missed that chance, but its not enough to ruin the show for me. But maybe the fact she isn't getting flight training (from what we are seeing anyway, could be off screen) might be a good argument for her being unable to. She isnt getting the lessons because its a disability, so it would more serve that its true that she can, in fact, not fly.
Yeah Rainbow has become a LOT better. She handled the issue with the kids like a champ! She still was straight forward and blunt, but she didn't just belittle the CMC for leaving Scoots behind and she talked to Scoots like an adult would a child, she has matured a lot.
And thanks ^^ I'm so glad you like the cutie mark. It was kind of a play on my old idea, where I had it that Scoots could fly. Her cutie mark was going to be a long thin purple lightning bolt piercing clouds (like the smoke rings) but I didn't want to make hers similar to Rainbows was my main thing. Cause though it can be written well, I am kinda getting sick of people making Scoots character nothing more than what revolves around Rainbow. Yeah, they are a lot of like especially seeing how they act in this episode, but Scoot has more to her than just Rainbow Dash. That's why I enjoyed the subtly this time around, yes she still is a fangirl, and like Rainbow can fangasm a lot, but its not to the point of being pathetic. So I wanted to avoid that this time around. It also changed because my old mark represented her flying stunts, but I like how she cant fly, so I chose to still keep the piercing through clouds, giving it an airy feel and also stunt feel (being like hoops etc) but wanted to take out the aspect of flight. An even older one I made was her helmet on fire, representing her insane stunt performing talent, but also hinting at safety and all that ;3. So I wanted to keep the fire but made it a wheel and made it look like the wheel was "Getting Air! XD" but the rings could also feel like smoke trails from fire.
Ok well I rambled enough ^^ just liked how my mark turned out.
