using photoshop make a copy of this flattened image
take the circular marquee tool
mark out the area you don't want touched by any effects
right click
feather
90
take the erasure to a large setting like 900 or more
use the 0 hardness setting
and simply rub out that area
go to curves
and on the centre of the line move the point about a quarter way up to the left 45 degrees
then
go to filter
Gaussian blur
and blur at about 10 pixels
then
go to the layer blend and set to illuminosity at 35 % oppacity

how do you like the blurring filter ? I was trying to achieve something more with desaturation but it wasn't working out.
