Chances are I might be the only person on the planet who actually knows this TV series.

I just noticed I haven't done any traditional art for a while - and all my art supplies were gathering dust. It was a good chance to try out new parchment paper, too.

This scene isn't actually from the TV show - unfortunately Conor and Cait never got together ever tho there was plenty of mutual respect and tenderness between the characters... until an annoying third party called Molly appeared

If you've got no idea what show I'm on about... how shall I even start to explain Roar?
Maybe [link] can tell you more.
No. They're just dry words. This: [link] gives a real feel of the show. Enjoy!

Wow. I bought the TV series for $30! OMFG! It was worth every penny. Say would you mind helping me out with something??? I love the TV show and was wondering if we could work on something together. Excellent job by the way!

yeah I bought the complete series too, it's great, the order of episodes is a bit wrong but never mind.
depends on what it is - can you give me more info?

Yeah I was wondering if you would like to make a full character picture. Like with Longenous, Diana, Conor, Fergus, Molly, Cat, Tilly.... U get the point. If its too much dont worry about it. I just want to make one really bad, no one else wants to do one. I will help. Ill sketch some of them. I know u have photoshop, I dont. So you can color them.

yeah if you do the lineart, I'll colour. That'll be a collab. I can't do it immediately tho, as I've got some real life issues to sort out. I like the idea tho!

as soon as you finish the lineart really... I'll then colour it tho I can't promise it can happen soon

OK great! I almost got it done now! Diana's face is being a....um... NVM. Do you want dark lines around it? They dont really have EYES. Well their there, just not very detailed. But I do have an ink pen, ill just go around the parts that are able to be traced. Not the very detailed parts as i'll ruin it. So tell me and I'll go on to the next step. How exactly do you want me to send it to you? do I just put it up on my gallery and you copy and paste it and just start working on it or? Srry. Too many questions...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

irinarichards In reply to Juniperfern [2007-06-15 19:11:33 +0000 UTC]

I don't mind if the lines are very defined or not, as long as they're visible I'd rather you had it inked, just because I feel more confident in colouring an inked lineart
The file has to be quite big for me to be able to colour it, you can either upload it here in the gallery and send me the link or upload it to [link] and send me the link in a Note (to stop other people getting access to it).

OK got it! YEY! ok. I will take a digital pic of it because my scanner sucks, so i will send it to you as soon as im done inking it. THANKS!

Thanks! It'd be better if you could find a a scanner tho. Just because the resolution needs to be quite high to colour it in properly.

Why are good shows axed before they really get into their swing?

I mean, seriously, Roar - only 13 episodes
Firefly - only 12 episodes...

Both good shows, both with following in England, both made in america and axed.

I remember once seeing a episode, never knew what it was called, thought it was a movie and falling in love straight away with Connor.

I've been trying to find out about it for years and had given up...thank you for giving me the tools to carry on.

You're welcome, I'm so glad I can spread Roar further even tho it seems even old fans have given up on it.
That "Roar Lives On" forum (on the video) is now non-existent, sadly.

Traneei In reply to irinarichards [2007-06-03 11:35:48 +0000 UTC]

So very very sad.

Why is it that American companies cancel shows without even thinking that there is a audience overseas?

Same thing happened with Jake 2.0, people in England loved it, some people in America liked it and because there wasn't enough americans the show got axed.

irinarichards In reply to Traneei [2007-06-03 15:43:29 +0000 UTC]

well, I know that Roar was originally planned as a Hercules/Xena type show and it just didn't fit into the stereotypes... the characters weren't camp enough

hmm...I don't remember that show, though I do remember its contemporaries very well....it sounds interesting, but isn't it only after the first 100 episodes that they start to put TV on DVD? well, maybe I'll be able to catch the reruns at 4 in the morning XD. I know over the summer, the Sci-fi channel was playing re-runs of BeastMaster, but I haven't heard seen or heard anything about Xena or Hercules in years...

anyway, about the art: The colours are so vibrant! even on parchment! Though, I've never worked with parchment, so I have nothing to compare it to....the vegetation is such a fun shade of green and I really love the boulder! usually, solid black shading is a tricky business, but you pulled it off well! Congrats!

irinarichards In reply to PippinIncarnate [2007-02-07 09:40:46 +0000 UTC]

thank you the first pic I've done fully in markers (apart from the sky). It's not actually parchment itself, it's parchment paper, thick and smooth with patterns that look like parchment
Roar was released on DVD in September 2006, 8 years after it was originally aired, tho there were only 13 episodes EVER made (before the show was cruelly axed) after years upon years of fans' pleads and petitions to Fox. Yay for persistence!

Which marker colours are you using the for the shadows and the darkest parts on the skin-- one of theblues? Anyway, I'm sure I vaguely remember this-- Heath's outfit looks sooo familiar. For some bizarre reason, the rock they're sitting on is the part of this picture that has me oogling-- is that marker or watercolour?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

irinarichards In reply to Larissa-Bright [2007-01-30 09:40:48 +0000 UTC]

yeah I used Pale Blue or Blue Gray for the shadows. The rock is done in markers - and to be honest I don't like it

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Larissa-Bright In reply to irinarichards [2007-02-01 09:58:59 +0000 UTC]

I think the rock looks great One last question-- what kind of paper did you use there? Watercolour paper? If so, do the markers work/blend properly on watercolour paper?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

irinarichards In reply to Larissa-Bright [2007-02-01 10:58:11 +0000 UTC]

It's called "parchment paper". The surface is very smooth so it's not very good for watercolour (I tried a bit on the back but switched to gouache). But it's great for markers - alcohol markers blend even better than water based (I used both, you can see the difference - on Cait's skirt and boots and Conor's belt). First time I used this paper... definitely buying more.
And I know now what you mean when you say you hate your scanner. On 5th attempt to scan this properly, I was ready for scan-slaughter :/

Ah, thanks for telling me! I'll have to look into parchment paper-- though after my hairdo I'm a little poor, so it might be best if I stay out of the art shop... And yeah, scanners are mostly evil, though the ones are university are far better behaved than the piece of junk I have at home.

yeah I know the feeling when you've got to stay out of any art and craft shops once I'm in one I fell lkie I could buy the whole stock ^^ just the other day I spoke to the shop assistant at my local art shop in Hailsham and it was like "I love you shop, please let me know if you have a vacancy!"
