Description OH GOD SO CUTE.
This is an unnamed baby from LovinDaRats' current litter, a pairing between Devi and Z. She is a Black Cap-Stripe Dumbo, whose Cap looks like a Mask. :3
Even though this girly is unfortunately already reserved, her brothers and sisters are darn cute, too! They'll be ready to go in early February. Anyone interested should head on over to LovinDaRats' website and check out the Nursery to see the cute babies!
You gotta love 'em!

She is now three weeks and 2 days old.
She is a a Cap-Stripe Dumbo. Cap-Stipes Are colored on their head and then from their shoulders to their tail. Not to be confused with a Hooded!

Aww!! I have a Cap-Blaze that carries Dumbo. He's my favorite (I KNOW you're not supposed to have favorites, but he's just amazing. I'll be sad when he goes.) His name is Z.
What's your split-cap's name?

Aww!
I know youΒ΄re not supposed to, but I have too
My split capΒ΄s name is Nirvana, because her litter were Buddha themed
I have a "speutered" crew of 3, two manrats and my little ADHD rat Nirvana..^^

Z's the son of two of my favorite rats - one of which is gone. Trigger, his daddy is an American Blue Cap Dwarf and his mommy, a Tan Cap Dumbo, died while giving birth two her second litter (not Z's). We fostered the babies, so thankfully they lived, but I was heartbroken.
AWW! We're going to start with themes soon. It's getting hard to think of names! Lol!
I've always wanted to get some of our older rats neutered. And the pet only rats. We've been looking for a better vet.

ThatΒ΄s so sad
My boys would probably have been neutered down the road even if I hadnΒ΄t gotten her..
They(the boys) are pet store rats, and one of them is still skittish after a year..
The boys are vampire themed tho
I know of some that have dessert and spice themed litters
I hope you find a better vet!
Neutering, and specially spaying is very uncommon here(except on cats)..

I've wanted to spay some of my girls, but we've never had an problems with tumors (the main reason to get them fixed)except in one pet-store rat and one from a litter that happened on accident because the mama came preggers and the baby ended up with a tumor later in life. It's become a little unnecessary, but I would still like to fix our adoptables and pet-only babies just to prevent any "accidental" litters.
Aww! We're thinking of a video game theme next time.
Thanks! We're looking hard, but it's the same over here. The only good one "nearby" is in LA. UGH!

IΒ΄ve spayed her, but I probably wouldnΒ΄t if I was going to continue with girls..(it costs 350$ for one spay here..)
I got her because IΒ΄ve only had boys, and wanted to figure out what fit me best..
I love her to death, but I will definitely continue with boys only
I completely understand where youΒ΄re coming from tho!

I wish there were more good exotic vets..
There are only two in this part of the country:/
The closest vet to me spent 30 min figure out that my boys had lice(which was pretty obvious since they were PEWΒ΄s), another 30 min with figuring out the medicine, and almost 10min weighing them.... I was so impressed you have no idea It took me less than five min in google..

HOLY BUJEEZUS! Wow that's waaaaay too much. See, if we could find a way to justify fixing our adoptable pet-only rats, we would but it's just so expensive... Ah well. We've got a decent amount, I suppose, but honestly.. I know more about rat diseases and issues than our old vet did. We basically only use her to put them down now. She though that a case of Pyometra was a "bad case of Megacolon."
Here's hoping that maybe some day we'll have competent rat vets!

Yeah it is..
ItΒ΄s pretty much half my paycheck..-_-
I live in an expensive country tho.. It costs 85$ just to set foot at the vets..*sigh*
What is pyometra again?
I think I have heard of it, but I donΒ΄t remember what it is.. MC I know tho..
Yeah lets hope!
I have a good one now tho.. only 40min drive away...

It's called a Cap-Stripe (they are our specialty :3) but her cap is a little off and looks like a marking called a mask. I KNOWWW right after they open their eyes.. Little terrors.

lol yes, and that's wonderful that you breed them like that X3 i used to have a bunch a while ago i got rats with all sorts of forehead markings. she's super cute i just wanna gobble her up om nom nom nom haha

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

IrkenInvaderTAK In reply to vampyregirl666 [2011-01-18 17:19:07 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, only to make the best. Breeder rats are so much better than pet store rats..
We ended up with an entire litter with head markings like that from a Black-Eyed-White mama. They were so cute!
We just love the Cap-Stripe because 1. It's amazingly adorable! 2. It's rare. (No one breeds them! Apparently it's difficult or something like that. NOT REALLY) 3. It's the best of both worlds - head marking and a cute stripe down their backs!

AND I SWEAR THEY'RE 600% CUTER AS DUMBOS.

vampyregirl666 In reply to IrkenInvaderTAK [2011-01-18 18:01:45 +0000 UTC]

i do agree that breeder rats are way better than pet store rats you get the most unique fur patterns that way. and no kidding that marking is rare, ive never seen or heard of it until i saw this. dumbos are super cute, ive never had the pleasure of owning one though.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

IrkenInvaderTAK In reply to vampyregirl666 [2011-01-18 18:31:45 +0000 UTC]

I can't stand getting pet-store rats now.. I even see the difference between our older rats that we got from pet stores and the ones we've bred and handled from day one. (MUCH BETTER.)
I had never heard of it before, either, but my partner in the rattery, *gorywill , found an Agouti Dumbo Cap-Stripe down in LA and brought it to me. I fell in love!
I did research and found out that no one bred them because they had weird problems, but I tried anyways with the English (Britain) genetics. It worked!
We're trying to breed down our lines to only have Dumbo but it'll take some time. We love Dumbos!!

vampyregirl666 In reply to IrkenInvaderTAK [2011-01-18 21:17:31 +0000 UTC]

yes ive bred them in the past myself and i do say that they are better well mannered than an older rat from a pet store (though i have had some that are amazingly behaved and sweet) dumbos are wicked cute good luck with your breeding and all the little cuties that come from these techniques

Same here, some of my faves were from petstores but my BEST rats are the ones we ourselves have personally bred.
Thanks a lot! We'll keep working toward ratty perfection!
