Description I love Mata Nui. The Island that is. So I gave it some hot hot love.

Ta-koro is supposed to be inside a volcano with the opening at the top, but in the MNOG there are a lot of magma-filled caverns behind the village, which interestingly sort of twitch that idea.

I didn't notice that before, but I thought the Ta-Koro in the movie still looked cool. That whole magma bridge is one of my favorite parts of Koro.

About 99.7 % chalk-brush, 0.2 % soft-brush and 0.1 % cloud-brush. The chalk brush is a standard photoshop brush and I use it with with a dual-brush enabled which gives it texture. This makes it a good allround brush. you can download the specific brush preset from

Awesome, thank you so much for this! I've been experimenting around with the chalk brush a little, and it's great so far. Thanks, dude!

IRON6DUCK In reply to SirMauser [2015-04-23 20:50:20 +0000 UTC]

Heh, I know. Though, I really like how Ta-koro uses the mediaval styles to make it look more like a neutral fortified stronghold rather than a omg-this-is-obviously-the-evil-hell-city . Also, if I wanted a castle from hell I could pull many other tricks in order to make it more intimidating and deadly-looking.

Wow, this is simply amazing ! And I loved the little Tohunga on the right

Are the yellow dots by the bridge supposed to be Homes outside the fortress ?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

IRON6DUCK In reply to Zidonaro [2015-04-25 12:04:39 +0000 UTC]

Thx Well I imagine the fortress to contain all the essential homes of the Ta-matoran. And so the lights outside the walls are, in my image, mostly supposed to be torches to light roads or other object utilized by Ta-matoran.. There could be exceptions though

AND I'M COLØURBLIND!! heh, thank you Elissa . (I am actually a tiiny bit disappointed with this one because I wanted a more present 3rd light-source but I just couldn't figure out how to integrate it properly) but that is minor things. It was also very interestingly hard to make a huge-lava-surrounding-fortress look "strong and solid" without having it look "hostile and ominous" .

You're welcome

My favorite part is the bridge rising from the lava. The magma falling off of the rocks feels so fluid and natural. This is a piece I wish I could have done xP Bravo, my friend.Β

Haha awesome. I seem, from the comments, to hit all my impression-goals I set while I made this one.. If you haven't seen, I made a longer step-by-step for this one. I consciously saved at certain marks in the process this time in order to make it.

Cyber-Hand [2015-04-22 21:33:25 +0000 UTC]

Actually ta-koro was never situated inside the volcano, but rather the main offshoot of magma flow. This is a common missconception. Kini-nui was closer to the volcano than any of the villages. However this is a brilliant piece of work and really captures the mystery and atmosphere of the Island at the time.

IRON6DUCK In reply to Cyber-Hand [2015-04-22 22:33:44 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha. I just knew I would get some lore wrong, even if I did just one sentence of it xD. I even went to the wiki (in attempt) to make sure I didn't get anything wrong. I found the name of the magma-pool but apparently there wasn't much info about the wahi so I thought I was safe. Bummer. xD Oh well. As I said, some elements are evidence for Ta-koro not being in a volcano afterall, and I also never said Ta-koro was in a volcano in my piece! Thank you for the info though ^^
