A personal favorite story of mine.
A story from West Virginia, about a phenomenon that took place back in the late 1960's
Sightings of a large, winged creature, with large red eyes, started popping up all over the area of Point Pleasant, West Virginia. The last this creature was sighted was in 1967, following the collapse of the Silver bridge, resulting in the death of forty-six people. It's because of this, the Mothman is now seen as an omen of death, and tragedy.
Many skeptics claim that this creature was nothing more than a large owl, or heron, which are common in the area.

In a way, I can see that. There are owls that have been known to be as large as the creature was claimed to be.
I am however, open to interpretation...
