Ectotus is a prehistoric species of fish that dates back to the early Permian era, and are the last surviving group of armored fish. They are mostly found in rivers, large lakes, and certain species can be found on coastlines and in kelp forests.

Most species hunt and live similarly to catfish. The largest species can grow to be up to 8 feet long, and the smallest can be as small as 0.5 a foot.
All members are carnivores, and most occupy the role of apex predator in their individual ecosystems.
