[ BACKSTORY ]
Summary: Zhang Fai was born through the love between a human and a Xana (a fable which was seen as a demon in this world), discovered by a performance artist at young age, and brought to a performance district to be raised into the person's successor. He befriended a girl named Zhu Yan who lived at the same lodging house. Both went through training and started their entertainer career. Zhang Fai was more popular, making Zhu Yan grow envious and resentful towards him. Both finished their training and earned their performer titles, Zhang Chao and Zhu Xiulan. He met a fellow performer called Sun Meirong, whom he developed a crush on. Both started to meet between jobs and it blossomed into love, although since both could not have lovers according to their contracts, they had to meet in secret to live out their passion. Careless young love resulted in conception, and the two of them felt obligated to have Sun Meirong become a patron's lady to compensate her own career financially, while letting Zhang Chao come out clean. Sun Meirong became sick after childbirth and began to write letters to Zhang Chao concerning their child's future, attesting his claim for fatherhood if he asked for it. The letters were eventually discovered by Zhu Xiulan, who spread the message through subtle gossip and ultimately let the patron know of them once Sun Meirong passed. Zhang Chao was accused of being a demon and his career crumbled apart. He isolated himself, then was given the child due to the patron not wanting to take care of it any longer. Both starved to death due to running out of money. Zhang Chao was revived into the Cluster by Yggdrasil and began to train his magic skills, hoping for a second chance at life. After 5 months, he earned his reputation as beast slaying bard at Jiahera.

Unable to nurse her child due to Xana being incapable of producing breast milk, the couple sought out a friend of the father, who had recently miscarried her own child. The three made an agreement, in which the Xana departed and the two humans were to raise her child as if it was their own, never to make it aware that its mother was a shunned spirit.

The xanin (child of a xana) was raised under the name Zhang Fai. His parents loved him dearly, often taking the young child into the city they lived nearby, a place full the finest traditional arts and entertainment; Music, dance, tea parties and other forms of cultural performance. Those performing were considered the high society of the land, famous, popular and worshiped. However, not anyone could simply become an artist, as a mentor always had to choose a new student to bring into the circle. Dreaming of becoming an artist as well, Zhang Fai would head off into the city by himself when his parents were working, singing casually on the streets. As the singing caught attention through unintentional enchantment, a man named Li Qiang spotted the child as well. Keeping an eye on Zhang Fai whenever he would come over, the seasoned artist requested his own mentor to allow him the training of a successor.

Soon he visited the family to invite Zhang Fai into the society as his disciple. Although concerned about the secret they kept from their son, Zhang Fai's parents allowed him to follow his dream, not wishing to make him unhappy. At first, Li Qiang visited on his own, making Zhang Fai aware of the customs by text. After a few weeks of theoretical practice, he was ready to move into the lodging house of performers that Li Qiang himself resided in. The departure was hard for the little family, yet they all knew it would be for the best if it was to make the child's future bright.

At the lodging house, Zhang Fai met a girl of the same age named Zhu Yan, who would train alongside him. The children became best friends quickly, consistently helping each other through their studies - singing, dancing, etiquette, instruments - and lifting each other through the hard times. While Zhang Fai seemed always a step ahead of his friend, Zhu Yan grew frustrated with her inferior results, knowing that at the end of the day, their lodging house would give the more desired jobs to the artist they were most satisfied with.

At the age of 15 years, both of them went through a ritual to officially follow the footsteps of their mentors. Their old names were replaced with courtesy names to mark a new beginning, - Zhang Chao and Zhu Xiulan - and both of them could finally earn their own money and shape their own paths beyond their mentors' names. Zhang Chao's career thrived immediately, always overshadowing Zhu Xiulan by a slight percentage. He was then introduced to a fellow female performer of the name Sun Meirong, whom he found himself working with often. The public greatly enjoyed their dynamic, booking their presence together more than they desired to see Zhang Chao perform with Zhu Xiulan. She grew bitter, beginning to loathe her former best friend.

When Zhang Chao and Sun Meirong began to meet casually on top of just being co-workers, he developed a crush on the other. Their usual meeting spot was a quiet lavender garden, where no one would disturb their peace. Their friendship became more intimate, and despite being forbidden a relationship by their choice of career, they allowed themselves to fall for each other. As it soon turned out, their secret, careless affair resulted in the pregnancy of Sun Meirong. Fearing the consequences it could have for both of their careers, the two came to a mutual agreement to pretend that the child was that of the man who had been interested in becoming Sun Meirong's patron. Additionally, she would accept his request to act as his lover. Due to that, Zhang Chao was no longer able to see her outside of business. On the other hand, his career did not suffer from it.

Before long, Zhu Xiulan's envy of their competitor became overbearing. In a restless pursuit to dig up dirt about Zhang Chao, she eventually discovered traces of the relationship he had had with Sun Meirong. The latter, who had started to succumb to sickness, had begun to write him numerous letters, describing her circumstances and wishes for their child's future, should she not make it, attesting that he was the real father - intended to be used for a claim of parental association in the future, whenever he was ready to take on the responsibility to raise their child at the same time as maintaining his career. That attest, however, was to be the doom of Zhang Chao’s career.

Further research led to Zhu Xiulan’s discovery of Zhang Chao’s child possessing strange magic, which could be backtracked to the legends of the Xana, capable of enchanting others with their voice and beauty. By subtly gossiping to her clients over several weeks, in which Sun Meirong fell victim to her illness, Zhu Xiulan spread the rumors, until the performer's late significant other felt forced to investigate the situation, unwilling to keep the child around further if it was not his own, and that his beloved Lady Sun had betrayed and taken advantage of his trust to lay with a demon.

Confronted with the accusations, Zhang Chao, who was personally unaware of any demonic heritage, deemed them ridiculous, questioning how anyone could believe in such rumors when it seemed clear that someone was trying to slander him out of envy. However, Zhu Xiulan, well aware of her charm, found her way into the bed of the patron and caretaker of the child, presenting the letters to him as clear evidence for the rumors. Shamelessly, she pretended to have been a friend of Sun Meirong, explaining her possession of them, when in reality she had stolen them from Zhang Chao.

The evidence was published, resulting in the awareness of the entire community on the matter. Promptly, Zhang Chao's career crumbled; clients felt betrayal at the discovery that they seemingly had been enchanted by the artist's tainted magic, and they felt outraged by such a creature existing within their rounds. Falling apart under the pressure of slowly losing everything he had worked so hard for, Zhang Chao began to believe in their accusations, wondering if everything had truly been a lie. His doubts transformed into humiliation as he was shunned from his lodging house and finally came to the realization that the woman who had once been his best friend had caused all of it to escalate. Instead of returning to his family home, Zhang Chao could not bring himself to go through further humiliation, and instead moved into a small hut in the outskirts of the district.

Making his threat reality, the patron went on to abandon the child, having it brought to its real father and demanding financial compensation for the amount of money he had spent on it so far, thus robbing Zhang Chao of most of his saved income. Depression took hold of the young man who spent the following weeks trying to be a good father to the child he never got to see. Yet the cruel world kept him down. As his saving vanished, so did his food storage. Although wishing to provide for his child, Zhang Chao was plagued by the sense of disgrace, unable to take a step outside and take on another job. He knew that every single person he had ever trusted had turned against him, believing in the tales Zhu Xiulan told them rather than ever questioning whether a gentle soul like him could truly be a demon.

The season changed, and soon Zhang Chao's child passed away in his bed by cause of malnutrition. Losing his last reason to keep himself going, he lost his will to live on, sleeping the days away until he as well found death through starvation, his last thought a plea to Sun Meirong to forgive him for his failure.

[ Yggdrasil's Realm ]
Zhang Chao found himself in a place that felt like a dream, in which an unfamiliar presence told him that it was not his time to return to the aetherflow just yet. His aether and physical shape were remolded and brought back to life in the Cluster by Yggdrasil. Upon revival, Zhang Chao’s soul had partly become that of a mourning spirit, commonly referred to as Weiße Frau/Dame Blanches. Even despite given a second chance, his sorrow ran too deep to recover, splitting his aether essence and blurring the memories of his past life.

He awoke in a field at Jiahera, well-nourished and returned to the prime of his health. Thanking the god who gave him another chance, Zhang Chao swore that he would achieve his dream in this world, regardless of judgement towards his magic abilities. Embracing these powers, he became able to utilize his voice and skills with various instruments and turn both into powerful weapons. Along the way, he discovered other abilities that his new life had granted him, including them in his battle style performances. Since the new world was plagued with strange monsters, Zhang Chao took out his feelings on them, gaining a reputation as beast slayer and assuring that he would never have to skip another meal. When he began to come into contact with society once more, he made the decision to pretend his former dovelike nature remained, whereas the experience of his decline had made him bitter and resentful.

Five months passed which he spent at Jiahera before Yggdrasil finally selected him as Player.

Some appear in the form of areas of effect, while others take the form of energy bolts or spikes. The type of shockwaves differs from instrument to instrument, allowing a variety of different fighting styles.

[ Blank Rhythm ] Enchants anyone who hears it to an involuntarily dance.
[ Passive ][ Intrusion ] Can travel through locked doors via keyholes. Does not work if a key is inside the hole.

[ Stairwell Rondo ] By creating shockwaves to create platforms, Zhang Chao is able to quickly move through the air.

His doubts transformed into humiliation as he was shunned from his lodging house and finally came to the realization that the woman who had once been his best friend had caused all of it to escalate. Instead of returning to his family home, Zhang Chao could not bring himself to go through further humiliation, and instead moved into a small hut in the outskirts of the district.

Making his threat reality, the patron went on to abandon the child, having it brought to its real father and demanding financial compensation for the amount of money he had spent on it so far, thus robbing Zhang Chao of most of his saved income. Depression took hold of the young man who spent the following weeks trying to be a good father to the child he never got to see. Yet the cruel world kept him down. As his saving vanished, so did his food storage. Although wishing to provide for his child, Zhang Chao was plagued by the sense of disgrace, unable to take a step outside and take on another job. He knew that every single person he had ever trusted had turned against him, believing in the tales Zhu Xiulan told them rather than ever questioning whether a gentle soul like him could truly be a demon.

The season changed, and soon Zhang Chao's child passed away in his bed by cause of malnutrition. Losing his last reason to keep himself going, he lost his will to live on, sleeping the days away until he as well found death through starvation, his last thought a plea to Sun Meirong to forgive him for his failure.

[ Yggdrasil's Realm ]
Zhang Chao found himself in a place that felt like a dream, in which an unfamiliar presence told him that it was not his time to return to the aetherflow just yet. His aether and physical shape were remolded and brought back to life in the Cluster by Yggdrasil. Upon revival, Zhang Chao’s soul had partly become that of a mourning spirit, commonly referred to as Weiße Frau/Dame Blanches. Even despite given a second chance, his sorrow ran too deep to recover, splitting his aether essence and blurring the memories of his past life.

He awoke in a field at Jiahera, well-nourished and returned to the prime of his health. Thanking the god who gave him another chance, Zhang Chao swore that he would achieve his dream in this world, regardless of judgement towards his magic abilities. Embracing these powers, he became able to utilize his voice and skills with various instruments and turn both into powerful weapons. Along the way, he discovered other abilities that his new life had granted him, including them in his battle style performances. Since the new world was plagued with strange monsters, Zhang Chao took out his feelings on them, gaining a reputation as beast slayer and assuring that he would never have to skip another meal. When he began to come into contact with society once more, he made the decision to pretend his former dovelike nature remained, whereas the experience of his decline had made him bitter and resentful.

Five months passed which he spent at Jiahera before Yggdrasil finally selected him as Player.

[ Abilities ][ Offensive ][ Xana's Requiem ] An enchanting ability carried out via vocal song. Those who have a pure soul and hear the song will be filled with a sense of peace and love. Those whose souls are not pure will feel they are being suffocated and may be driven insane. A weaker variant allows the user to cause a headache for individuals with mischievous intentions.

[ Barb's Sonata ] Summon either briars and thistles, or ructious cat and owl spirits to attack an enemy, or those who refuse to dance to the enchanter's request.

[ Shockwaves ] For direct combat, Zhang Chao's instruments summon powerful shockwaves that are controlled by the notes he plays. Some appear in the form of areas of effect, while others take the form of energy bolts or spikes. The type of shockwaves differs from instrument to instrument, allowing a variety of different fighting styles.

[ Blank Rhythm ] Enchants anyone who hears it to an involuntarily dance.
[ Passive ][ Intrusion ] Can travel through locked doors via keyholes. Does not work if a key is inside the hole.

[ Stairwell Rondo ] By creating shockwaves to create platforms, Zhang Chao is able to quickly move through the air.

[ Barricade ] Blocks the path of another person until they agree to do a favor for Zhang Chao or dance for him.
[ Buffs & Status Effects ] (Durability decided by dice during combat roleplay)[ Blank Noise ] Temporarily silences whoever is hit by the spell.
[ Red Noise ] Temporarily deafens whoever is hit by the spell.
[ Yellow Noise ] Temporarily makes the target confuse every direction for the other (left for right, back for front, etc).
[ Lover's Ballad ] Temporarily makes the target infatuated with a target of choice, so it will discontinue to attack them.
[ Ally's Minuet ] Makes the magic of each ally more powerful for a short amount of time (+3 on dice roll for rolled amount of rounds between 1-3).
