I've been seriously thinking about dropping out of that class but I'm SO not a quitter! So I'll keep trying (not to suck).Damn it D:

chances are, you're singing through your nose. Try dropping to your throat or chest and think of big open vowels when you sing so that the back of your throat stays relaxed and open.

At least you're practicing! I'm sure you don't suck at singing like you think you do. I know I hate hearing myself sing by myself (since, y'know, you can't actually hear yourself since it's all distorted). I even declined from private lessons since I hate practicing by myself so much. But I've been told I sing well 
So it's prolly all in your head (literally XD)!
Hurmmm...let's see. I don't do musical theater, but there's a lot of drama kids in my choir. All I can think of to offer is to split your stance on stage when you're standing still (one foot in front of the other) so if you're not moving/acting/dancing, you don't fall over from your knees locking on you XD.
And, uh, convincing yourself that you're amazing and that your class is DAMN lucky to have you will (probably) help you sing with more confidence/have a better stage presence

yeah, MUSICAL theater usually involves music of some kind. mostly singing. I was in the pit band for the last two plays at my school.

It sounds like the class is like an art class, where you're not graded based on talent but more on effort.
Since you say you've been practicing, unless you have a real jerk of a teacher, you'll do fine.

Sing it from your heart, like your singing to someone. And be happy, I've always I noticed when your being optimistic, your voice really shines.

Haha, same here. I know I suck, my parents have TOLD me singing's "not my thing", and yet I practice as much as I can and I show up at auditions and people say I'm good. O_O
So if you practice a lot, maybe you don't suck as much as you think. I mean, you probably don't suck. You just think that. Try to warm up every time before you sing, even just practice, that helps loosen you up. And don't sing from your throat or nose.

It's only practice! I used to be a terrible singer, but I practiced everyday and now I'm doing a solo with two girls from my school in the Sydney Opera House.

One should never doubt oneself. Whether or not you suck is not really up to you to decide anyway. Look at all the really bad actors and singers that have movie and record deals XD

i had that same problem about quitting
although my problem was AP Chem
and the fact that I actually like the subject ...
now if the TEACHER was different ... maybe I would have gotten better then a C- >.>

OMG. I'M HAVING THAT EXACT SAME PROBLEM. THERE ARE ONLY 18 PEOPLE IN THE CLASS AND I'D FEEL REALLY BAD ABOUT QUITTING MUSICAL THEATURE BUT I ALSO SUCK SO MUCH AT SINGING >.< I HAVE TO SING A SOLO!!!

If you sell it, you should be just fine; musical theater isn't necessarily about chords of steel or singing pretty, it's mostly about the character. That's what my teacher tells me, at least. :3

I can relate to that... not for singing, but for dancing. I hate trying out for musicals at my school.
You're probably better than you think, and if you're practicing, then you'll definitely get better. :3
Just learn good breathing, relax your jaw, don't slouch, and sing out. The worst thing you can do is psyche yourself out.

If you think you sound bad in your head, chances are you don't. My voice teacher always tells me that you will never ever be able to tell how your voice actually sounds to other people no matter how hard you try. Even if you record yourself, it distorts your voice a little so you still don't know how you really sound.

you're not the only one xD I don't think I'm a bad singer, i know i am but that doesn't stop me from doing my best bad voice c: I was singing Sweeny Todd(best movie ever!) in the library the other day(quietly) and some girl behind my friend kept looking at me funny. Oh well. Don't drop the class, it sounds like fun!

Im sure it's not as bad as you think. I know plenty of girls who have very nice voices and they say they suck. Keep at it, I'm sure you'll be fine. And besides, do you enjoy it? If you enjoy it, then what's the point if you suck or not?

I had to sing for an AP Music Theory class two or three years ago, had to do it in front of an instructor for the final test too, it was godawful and embarrassing, but I still passed the test and class - so good for you, stick with it and you'll get it (:
