More commission stuff! This was a gift, now that I think about it, I don't know who it was for... but it was based on this:

From his spot on the hilltop, Zuko let his golden eyes take in everything.

The setting sun painted the sky in a variety of deep, dark colors. And the final battle had left some of the same hues slipped on the barren ground. The landscape was littered with scars- scars that would heal, given time. He unconsciously touched the left side of his face and sighed.

It still amazed him that just a group of rag-tag, yet powerful, teenagers were able to do what no other army had been able to do in 100 years.

He lifted his face to the sky and watched as twilight slowly stole away the sun, and the remaining strength he had. The battle had been intense and every one of his muscles ached. The cuts that spanned his body burned and stung. Each breath he took was labored. He welcomed the pain. It meant that he was alive- and the war was over.

Hearing footfalls approach, Zuko dropped his gaze toward the figure coming up the hill. Her hair had been released from its braid and swirled around her in the night breeze. The sleeves of her robes had been ripped, nearly falling off her arms in places. Bleeding knees were exposed through the holes in her leggings. She cradled one of her arms in front of her, but showed no outward signs of pain. On her face, a dark purple bruise was already rising to the surface; dried blood caked her cracked lips.

None of this startled him as much as her blank expression.

She limped toward him, all the grace gone from her gait. Each movement was sluggish and forced. He watched her; unsure of if he should meet her halfway or stay. As she closed the distance between them, he could see tense lines etched on her face. He'd learned those lines were a sign she was fighting to keep her emotions under control. Thin streams of moonlight illuminated the unshed tears in her blue eyes. A tight knot formed in his chest and held his breath. She kept marching toward him, and he waited for the moment she'd crash into him.

And then she was there, pushed flush against him. Her hands balled in the shredded remains of his tunic, her nails lightly digging into his skin. Strands of long brown hair tickled the side of his face as she tucked her head under his chin. Unable to move, and not sure if he should, Zuko waited for Katara to say something- anything. The seconds ticked by like hours and then he felt her body lurch. The muffled sounds of her sobs soon reached his ears. Hot tears dropped onto his chest.

Uncertainty filled him. His hands fisted at his sides before he relaxed. A few times, he lifted his arms to touch her- to offer her some form of comfort- though he never did. He let her cry and listened to the broken sounds until her sniffles had grown silent.

Slowly, her hold on his tunic slackened. He felt her take a deep breath before she pulled her head out from under his chin. Katara tilted her face up to him and smiled.

Under her hand, his heart started beating.
