156 and 142 can run together? Interesting, but isn't the Pacer holding the other unit back a little?

Probably. Although all the first generation DMUs like these have the same automatic couplers equipped to them, due to them being built en-masse by British Rail to reduce costs and update rolling stock fleets from slam door DMUs from the 1960s in the 1980s and 1990s. The Pacers have an apparent top speed of 75mph/120kph, however whether or not one unit of this type has actually achieved 75mph is anybodys guess, the 156 behind it is permitted to 75mph however has been known to acheive 90mph/145kph on occasions. So the answer is, maybe a little bit, but it is feaseable and so is done.

I guess as long as it does not impede the schedule, it's not much of a problem.

The Pacer is holding the other unit back alot, but sometimes it's all northern rail have left to use.
