Description Okay, i admit, i don't really know where this one came from either. I had been reading a bit of "Through the Lookingglass" when my parents pulled me down to say they finally agreed to watch Shrek 2 and me and my stephdad set of on an epic quest to get the rental version (in which we were nearly hit my some [censordecensor] and got the last DVD on the shelf). Somewhere halfway through the film the idea for this drawing sort of seeped into my mind and stayed. So I drew it while looking through the extras on the DVD.

To be honest, Alice in Wonderland has always been a bit of a strange thing for me. I never really saw the Disney movie (I kept seeing bits and pieces, but the antire thing went over my head for some reason), the parts that i did see weren't really interesting to me. The character designs bothered me and I couldn't say I liked Alice. Fast foreward a bit. A dutch translation of Alice in Wonderland somehow made it into our house, with beautifull illustrations done by Anthony Browne. I never really read the story untill last year or so, but every now and then I'd pick it up and look at these beautiful surrealistic drawings.

It wasn't like Disney, not at all. Alice in this book has darkblond hair and a green dress with a red ribbon and red shoes. Though the Chesire Cat is definatley grinning, this particular red feline shares little resemblance to the purple-and-pink Chesire from Disney.

Then American McGee's Alice came along. In the end, I think that this one determined my version of Wonderland the most. Just a matter of personal taste; Teenage dark-haired Alice and the large skinny Chesire just appeal to me more.

With those different sources of inspiration I'm not really sure what I'll do with the colors on this one. Well, not for the Chesire, either way. I'm pretty sure that this Alice'll have dark-blonde hair and a blue dress, sort of a combination Alice. I'm just a bit undecided about the Chesire Cat. My personal taste ventures to gray and black, but I don't want this to be just an antropomorphised version of American McGee's Alice. Maybe I'll just go with gray and dark-purple...

Drawing-wise I'm pretty happy with this, the only thing that really bugs me is the way the lines go over the Chesire's tail right now.
