This is a little more ambitious than my usual watercolors! It's a teensy-tiny bit far off from the reference photo though. The scanner made it a little blurry. :-lref photo: [link] by: she has a treasure of a gallery!

Well my very first watercolours are posted on dA (and they were done in 1986), I have painted with watercolours off and on since then. I think I am a pretty good judge of what I like. I liked your composition, precision, and overall execution of Geisha, and I feel it has a real professional look to it.

I'm elated to hear that! Could you please tell me anything at all that bothers you with Geisha? I'm a watercolor beginner and I welcome any form of constructive criticism. I've started to do watercolors just this late December. I have a long way to go before I can be confident with them as my medium. I think watercolors are great.

The only things I can see are shading related, and maybe a slight adjustment to the length of small finger on her right hand. The middle finger on the right hand seems to not have enough shading. Also all of the brightly coloured stuff in her hair needs to have shading on the side that is not facing the light. Maybe even a bit of shine to the front of the hair as well. Everything I have commented on is very simple and by no means a big issue at all. I want to state again your handling of this difficult medium is very good.

yes everything you said are the actual things that keep nagging me as well! i just found out how to properly color hair with black - something i found very daunting. i also had trouble with the proximity of the hand and fingers with the head. thank you very much!
