Photo contest submission @  Contest and raffle!Time to celebrate 2000 watchers! I'd never guessed I would get that many - I remember my original goal was to get as many watchers as I watched other people But last I checked the counter was on 2002, so it's time for a small celebration.
First of all, the CONTEST. The theme is ANIMALS.
- Both photography and art (traditional, digital, manipulations, EVERYTHING) is allowed.
- All animals are allowed. Fantasy animals (dragons, griffins, unicorns, winged wolves, all that stuff) too. As hints I can tell that I personally love foxes, wolves and snow leopards, but enter whatever you want.
- Max 2 entries per person.
- You do not have to be a watcher - I do not want people to watch me for the contest and then unwatch me.
- Write that it's an entry for my contest under the deviation, with a link to this journal. Also comment under this journal or send me a note about it, to make sure I know about your entry.
- The contest goes to the 31. October. This

Well, there's nothing we can do except for loving them and being good to them until their last day. That's the best we can do: to make sure they know they're loved

Being a cat lover myself I can sympathize.

She looks like she was a total sweetheart, and look at those colors.

Beautiful.

My baby Pooka is only about 2-3 years old, but I'm already dreading the day she's not in my life. Pets are a gift to us, they're only here long enough to give us all the love possible and go long before we do. <3333

Absolutely agreed. They're like family members to me. Unlike many people, animals love you and are your loyal friends until they die. Unconditionally.

I'm so sorry I know how you feel. We recently had to put to sleep one of our cats who I've had since before I was born because he grew cancer in his jaw. He had a slow decent that we had to watch. We had to put him to sleep at our house, and I had to hold him and feel the life drain out of his body and feel his heart stop. It was the hardest thing I've ever had to do, but these guys will never be forgotten <3

I'm sorry to hear about Miss Patches...FELV is so horrible....

I managed a feral colony many years ago where the entire colony was infected, we found homes for as many as possible but I ended up keeping 6 of the kittens from the colony, knowing I would end up losing them to this disease. I really had not experienced this disease with my own animals until this point..Annabelle was the first to show symptoms, I vowed to fight the battle with her...her battle ended by asphyxiation, in my arms...she was 1 1/2 years old...I promised to never allow another to travel that path and I had them euthanized when the suffering became apparent. I lost them all within a six month period of time and it changed me but not by how they died but how they lived.
I have never known cats that were so loving as they were, so full of life almost as if they knew their time here was limited, I so enjoyed them, each of them. My mom adopted 6 also at that time that were felv positive and today, there is one who still lives, her name is Trixie, she is 9 years old and healthy, the only kitten out of those twelve to beat the odds.
I really am sorry about Miss Patches, she was beautiful.

Thank you very much for sharing your story So true ... she also was so full of life, and was so loving and sweet, and that's how we remember her. There is no replacement for her. Every cat, dog, and every pet has its own distinct personality.

So sorry about your loss. I have a kitty , and if she passed , I would be a total wreck. On a good note , this is a fantastic photo. Everything is beautiful about it. The lighting works so well with the colors of the animal. It is just gorgeous!

Thank you so much for the kind comment and for adding the photo to your collection. Much appreciated Not to brag about anything (as I can't really take good photos), however, this one came as a shock to me when I looked at it shortly after taking the photo. It was by total accident that the lighting came out so nicely. It was a sunny day outside and the sunrays were streaming through the windows. Miss Patches was playing in the sun jumping in and out of shadow. I took the picture quite randomly and didn't expect it to come out looking this good. I must admit that I love this photo myself. Probably the best shot I've ever taken . It's a beautiful memory of my Patchy.

Aw I am terribly sorry to hear about Miss Patches. I was just wondering a few days ago how she was doing after our discussion a few months ago when you found out she was sick.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IsabellaNY In reply to nanecakes [2009-05-07 01:34:35 +0000 UTC]

Well, she made it this far ever since then, so we were able to keep her alive for those few more months. Every day counts. But that night, her time was definitely up. She's been in a lot of discomfort before, but now it wasn't discomfort anymore. It was pure suffering, and we couldn't allow her to sufffer like this. She went out unbelievably peacefully, no pain whatsoever. She's in a much better place now (if such a place exists on the other side). Losing her is extremely sad and difficult, but then again we couldn't let her suffer like this. In fact, I was 99% positive she'd die herself that night if we didn't euthanize her. One way or another, she had no more time left .
