I think there's a moral to this story and that's forgiveness. Sure in the moment, the feelings probably hurt and feel overwhelming, but holding on to them doesn't benefit anyone in the long run.

A beautiful page. It just goes to show that lovers don't always get the happy ending they want, though they may have been meant for one another. Interesting to note that the only panel they weren't under the shadow of the statue was when the girl's parents arranged her match-- nice touch!
Out of all the pages so far, I really like this one the best. I would love to see a story on these two someday.
(Just a question: was it the woman who left the incense and offerings at his grave in the last panel?)

The illustrations are a combination of doing research from Ancient Vietnamese art for a previous class, and later combining it with other elements from Malay/Chinese/Japanese art.

I think this takes place 400 hundred years after the first time they meet (and died) in the first comic. 1000-600= 400 years later.
