I don't understand, how is this possible with beach sand?Β What kind of binder are you using?Β I've played with waste baked sand from sand foundries, it's bonded with plastic.Β

its actually not beach sand, it's much finner and has a lot a silt content. We compact the sand in wooden or plastic form with a lot of water.

So, sand plus clay under high pressure? Sounds a lot like foundry sand molding. I take it you construct a solid form, then carve it to fit your intended shape?

To be precise, the clay and/or silt content usually is not added, it's in the natural composition of the sand. Compaction is done manually with tampers and a lot of water. Basically, you make mud and let it sit until the water drains out. We do indeed form blocks of sand and then carve from it.
