Avarus was with Richard for a few years, and even if he wouldn't have joined Richard's "wandering bard" lifestyle, Richard's creativity and poetry would have been stuck in his head. But since he and Richard worked together, he can write. Maybe he wouldn't write novels, but poetry :3c (but pssst don't tell anyone!)
I'm biased with Saira in general. I don't why she's so cute and pretty. I never wanted that?! :'D
