Practice is a good start for making art. I practice doing hands, feet, all kind of anatomy to get it to look right
I always look at references weather it be looking at cat ears, body positions and how fabric bends. It helps it look less 2D and also helps with my shading
Also, try working with different styles such as realism, surrealism, cartoon or some other wacky style. Its fun just to let things loose and try everything XD
Lastly, try to look at the things around you and get an idea on how to draw them like looking at you teacher (very creepy...) and see how they stand or what their nose looks like.
Sorry this is so long but this is what I do that helps me make art. Hope it helps...
