Something about Lily's expression makes me feel that she has just given Severus a formal thank-you for all his efforts on the side of the "Light," and is gently saying good-bye before she flits back to her Gryffindor heaven where she lives in domestic bliss with James. With Sirius firmly ensconsed in the spare room.
Finally cut loose from his karmic bond, Severus turns around and finds his mother waiting to take him away for rest and eventual reincarnation someplace where Gryffindors are never seen.
