I really don't like the Brotherhood gear at all, I don't know why I just think it looks too 'clean', y'know? Too modern for the time it's set in.
I really liked the fact that in AC2 there were loads of wee fiddly bits in the clothes; lace, buckles, fancy collars and patterns etc - so even when you were wandering around Florence laden down with weaponry you still seemed to fit in, yet in Brotherhood you stick out like a sore thumb. :/ My only consolation is that you can dye them to a much nicer, more natural green (thank god for that! I hate the default colours!) or, thanks to Uplay, get Altair's Armour again or better yet, the Florentine Noble clothes.
Awesome pic btw - I love all the little details! ^^

yeah, i think the new robes could be helped by not just being white, but various light shades of grey too (like the ACII robes) some kind of patturn on the lapels (again, like in II) and also on the red bits bellow the waist. I do like the sleaves though, they're pretty cool.

the whole game was a bit cheeky of them, and with all the comics, face book games, short films and crap i'm starting to fear that they've lost touch with the winning formula

Well now that Patrice DΓ©silets has left Ubisoft, I'm really starting to worry. Apparently they want to aim for a GAME A YEAR which is all well and good in some respects but how on earth can they keep the quality up?!

i think they've gone too far away from stealthy infiltration, now it's all about big open street combat. in assassin's creed, discretion was encouraged because realistically any small group of guards posed a genuine threat if you weren't on your A-game; now not only can you do whatever you want then just sick your recruits on your pursuers but you don't even need to because ezio can go up against infinite hordes of attackers and kick their arses in his sleep. yeah it's awesome to watch, but it gets tedious and that wonderful sense of realism and need for discretion (one of the tenants of the assassins i might add) is gone!
and you just have too many get-out-of-jail-free card, i did appreciate the hidden pistol as a part of the story cause i think it's a worthy successor to the hidden blade in the renaissance, but now you have a cross bow which takes a split second to aims and fire and reload, darts, easier combat, and for fuck's sake you can just hold down a button and arrow literally fly down from the heavens and kill EVERYTHING near you... not cool ubisoft.

it's just too easy is my main problem. then there's the multpiplayer, i'm not fit to make a serious judgement because i havent touched it and probebly never will, but i will say this. they shouldn't try to weave it into the story. they can just have it on the side, it doesn't need to be canonically justified. AC is brillian because it's big and new and out there with all this soft science and everything but at the same time, it's sensible, it's believable! abstergo downloading recorded memories into their subjects to turn them into perfect assassins, that's just retarded. and templar vision? WTF?! recently they said they think they've perfected the formula and now they're going a but nuts with all these extra instalments, i think the formula was just right in ACII with perhaps a bit more building up to missions like in the first game. in brotherhood they've just kept improving until it's just...it's not bad, but either they're running out of juice of the directions the first two games were going in and the one this one was going in are not consistant.

yeah, it's just getting very slowly but surely sillier. they also say there will be another main entry to the seires this year that will not be ACIII, i have a theory. knowing them lately, if it turns out to be a brotherhood-ish add on to altair's story with all the updated gameplay mechanics, i want you to know that i fucking called it!

It does feel like they're overdoing it a bit - even with the DLC for AC2 - jump board/trampolines WTF?!

DLC can be abused a bit, if there was no such thing as DLC do you think the guys at ubisoft would have just cut out those two DNA sequences from ACII altogether, or would they have stayed until they finished!

i think multiplayer can act as a bit of a poison if not handled correctly. once ubisoft got the idea, that's all they seam to be into, then it becomes about pleasing as many people as you can thus losing the specific charm assassin's creed had. i know critically brotherhood did extremely well but it's another case of the company who mad ethe product not understanding who they have a responsability to please, the original fans, the ones who loved the initial concept, but now ubisoft are getting tired of its friends and wants to become part of the in crowd and so has started willingly acting stupider to apeal the larger demographic.
but is it worth it? the story modes are long and varied, with any more artistic elements, i played assassin's creed II when it came out and i only stopped when brotherhood came out! of course now i'm playing II again...
where as multiplay...it only takes a day or two to see everything there is to see, do everything there is to do, yeah there are multiple game types but they're all the same in gameplay. why put so much effort into something that is going to be inhabited by only tumble weeds in a few months?

ElreniaGreenleaf In reply to itchcrotch [2011-01-25 00:13:41 +0000 UTC]
Exactly! That's why I liked RDR's multiplayer so much - because it's a complete free roam (with other game modes available if you want to have a free for all/gang match etc) you can do what you like - often I end up just wandering around for hours, not really doing very much but others I'll spend with a posse clearing out gang hideouts. ACB's multiplayer on the other hand just doesn't grab me at all - there's no staying power and because each 'round' only goes on for a set length of time, there's nothing to stay for and really, not a lot to do. If they had more customisation (like the sims, you could create your own assassin) or something then I might go on it again as it would be a nice change and make it a bit more personal but as it is, urgh. :/
Storywise, I actually found the bits in Brotherhood with Desmond much more interesting than those with Ezio, which, despite him being arguably the main character, felt almost like a sideline. Saying this, since I completed the game at the beginning of December...I haven't played it since. With AC2 I was playing it all the time, even after I got RDR...
I do wonder sometimes whether the whole game was just an excuse to carry the multiplayer. :/ I really hope there's a lot more of Desmond in the next one - it was really refreshing to play as him (especially knowing that you could leap off tall buildings with no health damage! XD)

itchcrotch In reply to ElreniaGreenleaf [2011-01-25 01:05:14 +0000 UTC]
an excuse to carry the multiplayer? of course it was!
the central problem is that it's just an optional add on to ezio's story messily attatched to the main canon (desmond, apple, 21/12/2012, ones who came before, etc) there's a bit at the very beginning and it doesn't even count because it was just more on the ending for the previous game, and then right at the very end after ezio had done his irrelevant business just going through the motions of being an assassin the developers go "oh yes, the apple, right"
it all feels...less gritty, and sometimes grittiness is good, in moderation. while everythin that happened in I and II fealt important and was always building up to the big moment when something about the first civilisation was revealed, this time ezio was just going around roma, having a good old time, la volpe, being an assassin and responsible for saving the world and whatnot couldn't be bothered to do his research before trying to kill maciavelli and ezio has to slap across the ear and remind him that we are assassins! what we do is kind of important!
i think they've sacrificed the story quality for gimicy gameplay a bit more this time. while i apreciate assassin recruits as a story aspect (cause in II when everyone revealed themselves as assassins to ezio i thought "this is bullshit, where are the hoods? where are the robes?) but while "arming those who have been disarmed by the borgia" sounds good, you can't just pick up kids of the street and make them assassins! it may be fun to do, but there's a reason they are trained since birth, because unless they share hole hearidly the ideals of nothing is true everything is permitted, etc, they won't make good assassins for long.

heheh, i like the one i think in season 2 where danny's running a long con to prove to mickey that he can, and in the end when he's convicing his mark that this land he's trying to sell him is full of gold, the guy catches on and says he'll get his own people to do test, then mickey's back up plan: ash, who's pretending to be the farmer who owns the land, pretends to shoot rats but acutally shoots gold dust over where the mark's men test the soil;D
oh and the comic book auction one in season 1, that was so cleaver;D
