Jonas used to be an honor-roll college student with a stellar athletics record, a cushy job at their dad's law firm, and an accepting - albeit distant - family. Living in upstate New York, with its vast countryside and minimal populations suited them just fine. They loved gymnastics and dance; they had the toned, graceful body for it, and the quick mind to choreograph routines. Jonas had never been a team player due to the rather detached home life they had with the busy parents, so both the sports suited her perfectly. This of course changed in October, when they were visiting relatives out-of-state. Their grandparents, who lived in Texas, were regretfully left behind in the middle of the night so Jonas could make their escape, taking their rescued horse Axel with them. Jonas traveled for a month before falling in with a band of loose-cannons on their way to DC, where they claimed there was a safe zone. Jonas left when the leader was killed by a power-hungry member, before things got ugly. Now they roam Texas, siphoning food from convenience stores and anyplace that might have something for them to scrape by.

While roaming suburban Texas, Jonas heard about a group of people called the Orphans, a mostly peaceful group that aimed to live, not just survive, and they wondered if they would take them in...
