Description Well for our second project we had to due a character concept illustration. There was a large selection but I decided on going with this guy. The option I took was to create an insect alien but I didn't want to go the horror route this time but something a little funner. My original idea was to have something like this as a Ramon chef but that called for a more complex background and foreground and we were allowed only minimal backgrounds. So I ended up making him a diplomat that has crash landed, oh well, time to hitchhike now.

About 20 hours of work I think 90% Painter 10% photoshop.

I think it's a very good concept, with a lot of nice details and good metals shading e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/> There's just three issues I think that could be improved upon. One is the fact that while the slant of the sign and the pose suggests he's leaning on it, for some reason the whole of it does not, and creates a slightly off looking impression. Perhaps his arm is not resting down properly on the sign and the weight is a bit off center from where it should be leaning?

The second is the face. This depends a bit on choice, and it's supposed to be an alien, but I find the machine like appearance of his features a bit too far away from the organic to be familiar enough to be recognized as a face and therefore somewhat sympathetic. The necessary bits are there, but again, something about the whole just does not add up. If I was you, I'd try to push it closer to the biological world, ant based maybe?

And lastly it's the difference between the colour spectrum and separation of foreground and background. It does not have that obvious "we don't belong together" look that something can get when there's too much a difference, but it does have a hint of it. Maybe the touches of green could creep a little back more into the desert, or vice versa have more of that sandy looking earth spill over into the foreground and fade off the grass more.

I hope you find this useful e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Big Grin)"/>

You know the old saying, the devil is in the detail, and you must have the devil's attention. The little details like the stickers and the button add to the overall image. There is a story formed by the image alone. It has inspired me to write another drabble. Thank you

You gave it an awesome twist Great job! Even better than the chef idea in my opinion. I like the planet labels on his suitcase.

I might still do the chef later though because it has always been at the back of my mind.
