Meet Sparkling Shield, Princess of The Crystal Empire, Captain of Canterlot's Royal Guard, and DuskShine's sister! Don't let her semi-elegant appearance fool you, she's very strong, almost to the point of being a bit of an amazon. She even manages to lift Crescendo into the air with ease!
Yes and her name is Sparkling Shield, not Gleaming Shield. It sounds more feminine, and contrasts with DuskShine's name being changed from Twilight Sparkle. Sparkle is the feminine form of Shine, and vice versa.

The name could be Sparkling "Gleaming" Shield or Gleaming "Sparkling" Shield, it really doesn't matter as long it's by who ever thinks of the name.

Well, I was going for a rounded character. She's also more stern with Twinkle Scout (Chose that over Flare Warden because it sounds more fitting) and protective over DuskShine in that aspect than her male counterpart. You'd think it'd be the other way around, but I decided to throw gender roles off Canterlot Castle's balcony. Next, she'll come up with "8 Simple rules for dating my little brother".

Both actually. I've been preaching since Shining Armor's debut that his r63 should be named Sparkling.
I've also been quoted as saying she would be like Princess Leia from Starwars; a strong, resourceful woman, who can also be beautiful and feminine.
