No, he's in the same genera though. Actually called Titanis Walleri "Terror Bird". The Terror Bird is just a little bit bigger then Gastornis... I know what you mean, when I saw this in the museum I was freaking out lol... Glad you like it.

i always suspected that chocobos were based on these.... there are many instances in myth where these creatures turn up. i suspect they lived until quite recently, like they became extinct around 500 - 1000 years ago. close enough to see them in the rear-view mirror of our grandparent's stories of times gone by, at least. wish i could have seen them in motion.
of course, with recent discoveries, it is entirely possible that dinosaurs all looked like this too
