I was a big fan of making fake select screens for Brawl before it was released - this time though, I wanted to beat everyone to the punch and make the very first one!I tried to make the character choices as believable as possible, but feel free to let me know if one or two of them seems wrong to you. However, please, PLEASE try to practice some emotional restraint. I realize how... 'involved' some people can get when it comes to these things. o.o

Fun Fact: Of the five characters who didn't return in Brawl, Mewtwo was the only one who was an actual clone instead of a gameplay clone.

I agree! I'd very much like to see another classic Mega Man game - maybe with the physics of the early MMX games? I'm playing those on YouTube right now, and I've realized what lovely aerial control X has.

I for one think this is the best mock-roster for SSB4 so far. The new portraits for everyone really help where others have the majority of their portraits noticeably reused from other sources, even if they try to hide it. Particularly good job melding Takamaru and Lip into the roster screen, two I've never seen implemented well.
As for the character selection, also good. By now, after 3 smash games, all the characters from the most mainstream Nintendo series are already in, so I think they will need to shift focus onto new series to add. Golden Sun, Punch Out, Animal Crossing, Sin and Punishment, Panel de Pon/Puzzle League are all good choices. The only one I feel may be missing is Starfy, or maaaybe Advance Wars. Don't know about these people insisting on adding characters before their big role is even apparent, like Ghirahim or second Kid Icarus characters. Stuff like that is best left to consider once their games are actually out.

I don't see why he would be back . Lucario has a higher chance than Mewtwo .
Also , Mewtwo being in , makes the 4 playable Pokemon(yes , I'm counting PKMN trainer as one) all from Kanto , only Kanto , no variation , I see no reason for Mewtwo to be back.

very nice. i'm not too particular with Toad, Lip, and Takamaru, though. and although i like Simon Belmont, i'm having trouble picturing him in this game. but everything else, i like.

It's certainly not the most realistic roster, but I'd be happy with it...
46 is an odd number; why not 50 or 45?
Toad is an interesting choice, but one that I personally like more than Junior...
Isaac's good, Ridley's good; although Pit should stay in the same row as Samus, or at least close to Samus; in the same vein, Takamaru should be close to the Zelda series(Both the pairs of series are like sister series).
Takamaru is a good choice, Saki is an OK choice, Mac is a good choice and Megaman's good.
Now for the more questionable things:
Lyn is a poor choice for new FE rep, with no real significance, and would just be a Marth clone. Caeda or Micaiah are better choices, due to relevance and more unique fighting styles.
I can't see Pokemon with less or more characters than Mario; keep 'em equal. Mewtwo is a poor choice; he's not relevant anymore. How about a 5th gen rep, or Meowth?(Hint; you NEEED a 5th Gen Rep. Zoroark, Victini, Genesect...one of those.)
Removing Falco is a poor choice, especially with SF643D coming out. Keep the 3 SF reps.
The main character, Villager, is a far better choice than Nook.
Lip is a terrible choice; maybe because her only feasible method of attack is already an item? Maybe because she's as recent as the Gamecube? Maybe because there's about 7000000 better Retro characters? If you need suggestions, I'll give you some; I recommend keeping the established pattern and having one regular retro and one historical retro; Ice Climbers and Game & Watch; Pit & ROB.
If Konami can have 2 characters, I can't imagine it'd be fair to Sega, Capcom or...well, Quote's creator has no other games, so, yeah. But still, Konami should only get one character, and while I do agree Simon is far better than Snake, Kojima's friendship with Sakurai will keep Snake in.
Quote is an interesting choice. Not that I object to it; I love Cave Story, and he'd have a great moveset. But I think Travis Touchdown(Whose creator wants him in, like Snake), a Namco character or a Square-Enix character is more likely than him.

Rather than type out a lengthy response, I'll tip you in on something I've been noticing when it comes to Smash roster debates: Average people tend to not go with what characters actually make sense, but which ones seem "better" or "fair" to the respective fanbases they happen to be a part of.
A Kid Icarus fan? Medusa and that guy from the trailer we know nothing about would make GREAT additions!
Paper Mario fan? We need Paper Mario. Sports spinoff fan? Bowser Jr's the one and only choice.
Enjoy Pokemon Black & White? Gen 5 NEEDS a rep.
Play only the more recent titles in Zelda? Ghiranim absolutely HAS to be playable, even though we know next to nothing about him, and don't even have a clue whether he'll even be mentioned in future installments.
I used to be a huge Mario RPG fan before Brawl, and so somehow I convinced myself that Geno made a ton of sense to be playable. See where I'm going with this?

I usually go with choices that make sense.
Kid Icarus is a popular series, and the new game(Which is guaranteed to sell like hotcakes) is made by Sakurai. He seems to show favoritism to his characters.
Due to lack of Nintendo 'All-Stars', I'm also going with more flavor-of-the-month characters; Lucario got in SSBB, and Pichu got in SSBM, to represent the newest games. It follows that there will be a character in SSB4 that represents the most recent games, and since there's usually about a 5 year(Or something) gap between pokemon games, 5th Gen is newest.
Paper Mario is getting a new game; I'm not including him because I'm a 'fan' or anything; TBH, I prefer Mario RPG: TotSS AND M&L series to Paper Mario, proably because I've never played a Paper Mario game. But he's popular and getting a new game, and has 4 games; he makes sense as a character.
Bowser Jr. associated with sports spinoffs? Waluigi does so far more. Jr. associates with the main series Mario games, having been in every one since his introduction(Not to mention having a major role in each one).
Once again, Ghirahim's a matter of being flavor-of-the-month. I support Tingle far more, due to his popularity overseas and his having his own games and his being in more games than Ganondorf(And Ganon).
I sympathize; pre-Brawl, I somehow convinced myself that Geno, Elekid and Nergal were good choices. I really don't know what I was thinking.
My rosters are not based on personal preference...OK, maybe a smidge. I do love Golden sun a lot, and Animal Crossing...but I try to keep it logical.

Quote is from "Cave Story" - pretty much the biggest indie game in history. It's been ported and remade for the DS and Wii respectively, and it's being remade again exclusively for the 3DS.

Looks really good. I think Fire Emblem is probably a little over-represented here but I've never played a Fire Emblem game. 4 of those characters are from FE, right?
