Description Lest you think I only make presents for my boyfriend, here's some Turkish Delight I made for my mum for her birthday. It was really interesting to make, as I'd never made anything like that before.

This is a really silly question.. but what does turkish delight taste like? Rosewater sounds freaking delicious.

It tastes a little bit of rose and a little bit of lemon. The flavours aren't overwhelming but quite delicate. I'm not sure how else to describe it

I'm not quite sure what you mean about payment, since the prices are in euros! (and pounds, and dollars)
But I understand your other reasons. Thanks for your kind comments on my work

Oh. My. Gosh. Itti.... this seriously looks amazing. For starters, I've never tried Turkish Delight before. I wouldn't know if it's sweet, tangy, rich, anything. But looking at this photograph makes me want to find out... sooooo bad.
On top of that, the photograph in general is taken really artistically. It's something I've always admired about your food art, you truly make it art! From the warm soft colors to the way the details fade to the back of the picture. The angle is awesome, and I adore how much detail you were able to capture with that front couple of pieces. Just overall this has a certain feeling of comfort to it. Like you can kind of see the love that went into making this you know? Your mother is very lucky!

It's sweet and quite subtly flavoured - tastes of rose and lemon (mostly rose). I don't think I'd actually tasted it before I made it, I just knew my mum liked it

Thank you so much! Food art is a great way to combine two of my great loves, cooking and photography. [link] and [link] are both examples of when I was just making dinner or dessert and then I was like, hey, this looks so cool, Ihavetotakeapicture!

Oh man. That sounds amazing!
Hehehehe, whenever I try to take pictures of my food, it ends up looking really weird! So I can definitely appreciate the skill that goes into making it look so nice!

I just followed the recipe. You warm some things together in a pan, mix them with other ingredients and let them cool, then just leave it to set. It's actually surprisingly simple, although it seems more impressive because it's a bit unusual.

Stop sending me pictures that make me drool. This looks fantastic, and yummy. The colour is just scrumptious! Is it hard to make?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Itti In reply to PHarold [2011-09-09 20:34:39 +0000 UTC]

Not too hard, no. As I recall you just have to heat a few things together, let them cool and mix with other things, then line a suitable container with greaseproof paper, dust with icing sugar/cornflour mix, leave it to set and cut it into squares. Then dip the squares in the remaining icing sugar/cornflour mixture.

It doesn't keep for too long though, only a couple of weeks.

I didn't know that Turkish delight was unusual, but maybe that's because my mum likes it so much!

Ooh, that looks good. <3

I first had Turkish Delight when one of my dad's customers gave him some as a holiday gift a few years back. They were lemon and rosewater-flavoured. Yummy. :]

Itti In reply to pixieplay [2011-09-09 20:31:49 +0000 UTC]

That's the traditional flavouring, yeah. I was worried I'd have to make rosewater, but apparently you can buy it in the supermarket
