I teach Art to middle school students currently, but am more of a high school level teacher. For this piece I got about $400 for it. Cant remember exactly. I'm still getting about that price for this size painting.

You're welcome! Can't wait to see the 62 Imp. I need to learn how to render chrome. Never tried yet.

I started the imp this summer and it got set aside for other projects. Chrome is actually pretty easy once you change your thinking about what it looks like. The thing I always tell my student is that chrome is just like a carnival fun mirror. There's really not color in it, until something is reflected in it. Chrome only contains the colors of its surroundings

Thanks Paul! You can see this one in person if you make it to the fair fine art show in the cultural building. It'll probably be at Uncle Nancy's Coffee shop in Newton this fall too, if someone doesn't purchase it before then

MikeLangston In reply to itva [2009-04-20 19:03:19 +0000 UTC]

yes i did , thank you much ! i meant to tell you. Did you get the money yet? i think the wife sent a check , im sorry , but trust me its a good check. But i wanted to make sure this is the same stuff you use. Its Interior Acrylic Polyurethane Crystal Clear 77-45 ....... The reason i ask is cause on the can it says to allow 3 hours of dry time between coats .... aswell as it says to Apply as recived if nessary thin with small amount of clean water. I thought the stuff you use was 8 parts water to 1 part clear .... maybe i was confused. But let me know if this is the same stuff or if this is diffrent.

It's the right stuff- it should be 8 PARTS clear to 1 PART water! You wont need that much time between coats. The 3 hours is if you are using traditional brush or roller.

impressive, as usual.
I am particularly pleased with the texture of the ground (realistic and not overly-textured), the tire tread, the murky background, and all of the shiny shit. ...especially those headlights--I actually get the impression of depth behind a translucent surface. nice!

the body is a bit streaky (uniform, not natural) on the right side of the panel. smooth that out and You may just have the most technically perfect piece of airbrush work I've ever seen.

as for composition, etc... well, it's visually interesting to me.. the repeating oval shapes move my eyes across the panel in a nice direction, leading me to inspect other features along the way... no criticism there.

A+

Thanks! I plan too, finding the time while teaching is always difficult tho. Drawing vehicles is what really attached me to art in the first place.

I do not know anything about airbrushing and cannot offer a critique.
I love the composition, the way it all flows together so well. That basic strong vertical of the grill, horizontal of the valve cover and curve of the tread is a very strong combination. And you have so many wonderful value changes in this! It's a gorgeous piece of work!
