No bad luck, it's poor coaching and not having players skilled enough around him being the main problems. The strategy of Argentina is to play every single ball at Messi making them very predictible and making their plays very easy to disrupt, not to mention it puts a lot of pressure on him. He's also missing players that can give him the balls he needs, making the right passes to place him into a scoring position like Iniesta always does at FC Barcelona. And then there is the issue he has not being able to pull it through when he needs to, like the missed penalty, most likely due to the pressure.
