I thought i was doing okay...
and I thought the hair was the most fail part...
but it's actually the face ._.
the tilt of the face, the angle of everything
two things I do well:
1. elongate the face
2. reduce the angle of the head tilt
not anything to be proud of ._.
even though i'd like to keep this one i'll probably sell it ><
how much do you think it's worth? (to sell at a silent auction)
oh another thing.
don't EVER shade black to the edge of the page
it makes the likelihood of ripping the page very high ._.
like mine did
about a few millimeters of tear...
i need to figure out of the use that 7B pencil properly!! it has a charcoal quality to it but it is much darker than this brand of 9B i used (Derwent) i used the 7B in my 1st reita drawing, and my kai drawing. those didn't need to have the contrast adjusted! not that this one is edited in photoshop. it isn't.
ahh this is the first drawing i've done for myslef in a while xD

Ooo, nice and full of aspects which show you put much effort into the shading. Ah yes, I know what you mean about not shading to the edge, I never do it that too! I tried it once, but ended up making the colour too dark on the edges...

2. reduce the angle of the head tilt
I do this as well. Don't worry too much about it.
As long as you catch the resemblance it's okay.
About the hair, I guess you used a pencil too soft, so now it looks like a big mass and not hair.
Try using harder pencils for sharpening the details you want - for example hair.
And for softer shading of things that are not black, like his shirt. This way it also creates unnecessary texture for the plain fabric.
Certainly start shading from the very lightest to the darkest tones.
And for the contrast, I'll give you a small advice you might find handy.
After you've made a dark area which should be black and it just does not seem to be really black - to achieve the "true black" as I call it, draw over it once again, with a pencil approx 3-4 steps harder.
For example.
If you shaded black with 7B, do it over with a 4B or 3B. You'll be surprised.
But I warn you, it reduces the original texture of paper, it'll be just black.

it`s difficult to catch the dark shades in the hair >_>
i nearly used just 9B for the whole mass of hair...
should i detail it with a 6B next time (if the hair is very black)?
although, i've never been one for details -__-
for the shirt i probably should have used an HB...

I think 6B would be more appropriate, unless the hair is completely black.
