Description I love the Dune series from Frank Herbert and and I'm proud to say that I've managed to read all Dune books that have come out so far. (Yes, I even like the books from Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson! Some people expect these two to write like Herbert, which is impossible, as he was a genius, and they are obviously not. I think one has just got to lower one's expectations a bit, or expect something entirely different from what Herbert wrote. This way, one can enjoy the new books too. Phew, I'm done ranting...<
Okay, so I'm quite fascinated with the Bene Gesserit and I've already drew a few pictures of some of its members. This picture illustrates the scene in which Odrade takes Miles on a walk in the gardens of Chapterhouse, and explains him about nostalgia induced by the smell of sage.

There's hate towards anything beyond the first 6 books. Yea they aren't as good as the first 6 because they weren't written Frank, they were written by his son. Personally, I loved all of them. 1-8, the 2 prequel trilogies, the inbetweens and would definitely read them again given the time. Anyways, sorry for my rant. Good job on the artwork, love it and favorited.

I wouldn't exactly say I hate them, after all, I read all of them, but I can't help but wonder what the Dune-universe would be like if Frank Herbert had managed to write the last book (or books).

Still, there are some parts of the prequels and sequels that I really like, for example Norma Cenva's story and the sorceresses of Rossak. I just feel that there's way too much gore in some parts: it somehow crosses my level of tolerance for such things. (Go ahead, call me a wimp. )

Thank you for the comment and for the fave!

I'm reading Heretics at the moment and stumbled across this. Very very good and inspiring. I was thinking you could do a whole trading card deck or a tarot of sorts. This is brilliant

Thank you for your kind words!

I'll definitely be doing more Dune fanart in the future, and I am planning to come up with a better representation of the Dune-universe though, to create a unified look and feel for how I draw it, but I don't yet know when that'll happen. I'm starting on my new job tomorrow and not sure when I'll find time.

I wanted to say that I think he's a genius too! I like the fact that you captured the humanist elements of dune rather than the cold odd alient art that most people do~ Bravo IZAR. To me: the books all seem different and it's almost relativistic: I don't think the Herberts have one exact style .... so I think it's ok if you do different styles in different pieces.

(unrelated) I think... but have you seen this? [link]

I've gotta say: it does remind me of a tarot deck as well

Heh, sorry for only getting back to you now, but my job has been keeping me busy in the past month.

Yeah, I've been wondering too why people create such cold, futuristic representations. I suppose it's because the story is set so far-off in the future. But then the books still deal with humans who are anything but perfect. Well, except for the Bene Gesserit, who, in Miles' opinion are not really human anymore. Still, this is Odrade here, and she has retained a lot of her humanity, so...

Anyway, I'm not at the moment very inspired by the Dune-universe, but I'm certain I'll revisit it in the future.

Love this. Odrade is a favourite of mine and there's so little fanwork done about her. Bravo!

Yeah, I'd be so happy if I could find good Dune fanart on the Net. It is indeed very rare. (Me, I'm just doodling. )

I thought "Heretics" and "Chapterhouse" were the two best in the original series. Glad to see them represented here.
Great Work!

I remember this part. its about 1-2 years before Odrade get killed. strange how Frank Herbert kills of his main characters, but in some way he is also preserving them for eternety by Other Memory and Axlotl Tanks

Thank you! I'm happy you like my painting! I think it would be great if you drew all the characters, I'm looking forward to it. There aren't many Dune illustrations on DA.

Wonderfull... I don't suppose you'd like to do an adult version of Teg? He happens to be my favorite character in the series.
And I do like the little rant you made about the new books. I've let myself be too angry at his son and Anderson for not finding someone more... gifted to do the writing. It's good to have your perspective.

I do have some requests on my hand already (not to mention exams), but why not? I like him too, and I have a fairly clear image of him in my head that would be great to put on paper. Now I'm definitely going to do it.

I perfectly undestand those who are angry with them, as it is clear that those two shall never live up to his name or acquire his talent anytime soon: I myself were a little disappointed this Christmas when I bought myself Hunters of Dune. It doesn't provide the same intellectual challenge as Herbert's book do, instead, it's more action packed and gruesome at parts, as if they were trying to shock the reader with some of the scenes. But I guess it's better than nothing...

I was very happy to read yor comments, they made my day! Thank you!
