Ghoul was not always his name. He used to be a young and ambitious winged hunter who worked for the Undertown's crime lord.
He was skilled at tracking down and capturing his targets, using his speed, agility, and cunning. He enjoyed the thrill of the hunt, the reward of the bounty, and the respect of his peers. He was greedy for more power, money, and fame. But his greed led him to his downfall. One day, he was assigned to retrieve a mysterious relic from a hidden temple, guarded by ancient traps and curses. He thought it would be an easy job, a quick way to earn a fortune. He was wrong. As he entered the temple, he triggered a deadly trap that unleashed a swarm of poisonous blades. He tried to dodge them, but few of them hit his left arm, cutting his flesh and injecting a lethal venom. He felt a surge of pain, followed by a numbness that spread throughout his body. He collapsed on the floor, gasping for air.
He thought he was going to die. He regretted his choices, his arrogance, his greed. He wished he had lived a different life, a better life. He closed his eyes, waiting for the end...
But death did not come. Instead, he felt a strange sensation in his left arm, a warmth that contrasted with the coldness of his body. He opened his eyes,
and saw that his arm was glowing with a light. He looked closer, and saw that something crawled out of the relic and was embedded in his arm, fused with his flesh and bone. He felt the wings he lost once are growing back full of power and then a presence in his mind, a voice that growled and whispered to him: "I greet you, son. You have awakened me and I saved you from your fate. We are connected from now on. Together, we're stronger. Do you accept me as your friend?" Young man was terrified, and curious. He felt a surge of power in his arm, a power that he had never felt before. He wondered what this beast wanted from him, what it could offer him, what it could cost him. He hesitated, but then he made his choice. He answered: "Yes. You are my friend."
And so, Ghoul was born. A hybrid of man and the beast, a living corpse, a hideous creature. He escaped from the temple, leaving behind his old life and his old self. He went into the shadows, hiding from the world, from the law, from his enemies. He followed his own will, his own desires, his own instincts. He was driven by unknown feelings. He hunted those who wronged him, those who feared him, those who challenged him. He was a monster, hunting to appease his hunger.
He was Ghoul, and he had a friend.
A street urchin who survived by stealing, begging, and scamming. He had a rare gift of prophecy, a glimpse of the future that sometimes came to him in his visions.
He used his gift to his advantage, to avoid danger, to find opportunities, to manipulate others.
He was greedy for more wealth, more pleasure, more freedom.
But his greed led him to his doom. One night, he was lured by a mysterious woman who promised him a place in a secret sect, a cult that worshipped a dark spirit. He was told that he could learn
more about his gift, and unlock its full potential. She said he could have anything he wanted, if he joined them. He was curious, tempted, and foolish, so he agreed.
As he entered the sect's hideout, he was greeted by a masked figure who claimed to be the leader, the master, the chosen one. They said he knew about the boy's gift, and they wanted to challenge it.
They said they had a special mark for him, a symbol of his initiation, his loyalty, his destiny. They said it would enhance his power, and connect him to the spirit. That it would be a blessing. But they lied.
As the mark had been placed on his shoulder, he felt a surge of pain, followed by a dizziness that clouded his mind. He saw flashes of images, visions of the past, present, and future. He saw the spirit, a monstrous snake with humanoid 4-eyed head, it's slithered in the shadows. He heard a voice in his mind, a voice that hissed to him:
"You have been chosen by me, and I have claimed you as my own. We are now one, you and I. Together, we can see everything. Accept me as your master or be doomed..."
Young man felt helpless, but intrigued. He did not know what to do, what to say. He wondered what this creature wanted from him, what it could offer him, what it could take from him.
He had no choice, but to obey.
And answer faded in his mind: "I accept you, Master."
"Third eye" was written in the air and cult proclaimed acceptance. A seer of all, a servant of one, a doomed soul. He stayed with the sect, following the master's orders, using his power to spy, to deceive and to seduce. He lost his gift of prophecy, but gained a new one, a sight that could pierce through anything, anyone, anywhere. He saw the secrets, the lies, the truths. He saw the snake, the master, the mark. He saw his flesh, slowly rotting, slowly consumed by the creature's essence. He saw his fate, inevitable, irreversible, inescapable.
He was Third eye, and he had a master.
