Description So, Bravely Default is powering it's way towards my "Favourite 3DS game of all time" spot... Look out Kid Icarus Uprising!

I'm only roughly 15 hours into the game, and I adore everything about it. Honestly, Square Enix should have scrapped everything to do with Final Fantasy 13 and focused on this instead and promoted it as the next Final Fantasy. I haven't felt this way about a Final Fantasy game in a very long time!

Anyway, the enemy forces in the game are comprised of 25 or so characters whose Job Classes you obtain upon defeating them. And each of them has their own little quirks and personality. Not to mention THIS: www.youtube.com/watch?v=sk-9ih… , their boss theme.
I've only fought a handful of them so far, but I WANT MORE

Anyway... PLAY BRAVELY DEFAULT, NO MATTER WHAT IT TAKES

Playing Bravely Default makes me feel the same feeling I had the first time I ever played a Final Fantasy game.
I think it was Final Fantasy 3?
The one with the Kefka.Β
Anyway.

It's too bad that you couldn't have the Asterisk holders join your party.
I like the different job classes but I think it would have been amazing to have a change in the party and have Holly putting Ringabel down after one of his advances or to have Erutus comment on how silly it was that Edea and Ringabel squander their money on so much clothing.

It just stinks to have to kill off such interesting characters

"Playing Bravely Default makes me feel the same feeling I had the first time I ever played a Final Fantasy game.

Ohh? ^_^ Final Fantasy 3 was my first one too! ^_^
"The one with the Kefka."
...*SPITS* That's not Final Fantasy 3...

I'm sorry.
I just get triggered when people call Final Fantasy 6 as Final Fantasy 3, and on top of all call it the greatest FF game...
Yet MY first Final Fantasy was a real Final Fantasy 3, that is the one on nintendo DS.
...And... Final Fantasy 3 is way more Final Fantasy as Final Fantasy 6.

To me, Final Fantasy 6 is the same thing as Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 8 or Final Fantasy 13 (Yes, i put 6 and 13 in the same vein, heh.)
Like, those are GOOD and AWESOME games... but to me they feel like... not the actual Final Fantasy games.Β  Β  They feel more like Industrial Sci-Fi Final Fantasy spin-offs, like Persona is a school-set spin-off of Shin Megami Tensei.
Final Fantasy in my opinion should have Jobs, Crystals and Airships.Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β Thus, FF1, FF3, FF5, FF9, FF12, FF14, Bravely Default... to me they are the truest Final Fantasy games ^_^
...Also that Final Fantasy 5 is much better than Final Fantasy 6 in my opinion. ^_^

(Sorry for wall of text... i'm kind of person who loves to express whole thought without overlooking information that is crucial to my thought)

Kefka was the villain in Final Fantasy 6. I haven't played that one myself, I just knew he was from it. And you're right! It does feel like a classic Final Fantasy. I believe it was because of the Job System.

And you're ideas are awesome! It totally would have fit in later in the game when they were more about simply stopping Agnes rather than trying to kill her.

Who knows, maybe in Bravely Second they'll add the option.

I didn't like Bravely Default at first, but it's Bravely Default. I really liked the asterisk holders too!

Oh really? I found it got more tedious as it went. The first 4 chapters were definitely the best part of the game.

Crap replied wrong. The new format is kinda weird on my mobile.

>_<' I haven't gotten past Chapter 2. The Bloodrose Legion has been kicking my ass with hair dyes and wing hairclips. AngΓ©s and Ringabel are white mages while Tiz is a thief and Adea's a monk. How'd you set up your party back in Chapter 2?

J-RuIVI In reply to OrpheusEx [2014-04-15 04:30:49 +0000 UTC]

Erm, Chapter 2 seems so damn long ago! haha
I know I had Agnes as a White Mage for practically the whole game, until the later chapters. Ringabel I had as a Black Mage and subbed as a Time Mage because you NEED a Time Mage later (Slow, Haste and Reraise are practically essential). I had Tiz as a Monk until I beat Artemia. After I beat her I had him as a Ranger subbed as a Monk because bows + Invigorate = massive damage (though, I dropped Monk altogether eventually). And I believe I had Edea as a Spell Fencer subbed Knight. The Spell Fencer comes in handy against bosses with elemental weakness (like Artemia being weak to fire).
But honestly, the best bet is to leave the Asterisk bearers until after you've gone to revisit Yulyana and such. I'm pretty sure I left the Bloodrose Legion until just before I awakened the Water Crystal (except for Artemia, because she was pretty easy). Plus, the Ranger's Targeting ability comes in very handy against a certain boss that likes to spam Default during this chapter...

I already visited Yulyana... Guess that shows my poor tactics... I'll have to grind a lot more. I can see how haste would be essential. I tend to have Tiz and Edea brave the crap out of the system, so that would help.

I wonder if there's a Bravely Default dA group...

J-RuIVI In reply to OrpheusEx [2014-04-15 21:54:48 +0000 UTC]

Sorry I can't be more help, lol
And yeah, tactics start to come into play in this game. If you wish to grind, I would suggest doing so in the Florem Gardens. The small little plant monsters there drop large amounts of EXP, PG and JP. Just be careful of the Legion Soldiers and the tree stump enemies.
Time Mages do come in very handy, as eventually enemies will always start being faster than your characters. This is especially nasty when up against some of the upcoming Asterisk bosses, and Crystal Bosses. I ended up finding that just having Slowga constantly active on the enemy was enough to make them go last, but Hastega helps a lot too. Plus, one of their final spells, Reraise, is the Auto-Life of this game (basically once your character is KO'd, they revive once automatically). A Time Mage who has also mastered Black Mage is deadly, as the Black Mage's final ability is "Group Cast-All", which automatically makes magic target all enemies/allies. So basically spells that can only target one target, like Reraise, now target your entire party at the same MP cost.
I would elaborate more on the strategy my Ringabel had going using a combination of Time Mage, Black Mage and one other Asterisk, but I wouldn't want to give away spoilers if you don't yet know all the Job classes.

Also, I would recommend against Braving too much at this point in the game. The last thing you want is characters missing turns during important battles. I'm pretty sure I stuck with 1 attack per turn unless they defaulted a few times first. Eventually you get Job classes that allow you to gain Brave Points without having to Default, so once you get to that point, Braving several times in a turn becomes a good strategy. I'm pretty sure my general strategy earlier on was to have Tiz and Edea default for one or two turns, and then unleash as much damage as possible in a single turn.

ALSO Special Attacks are your best friends... Especially ones using a Staff. Rejuvenation, when set up right, is hella op'd. Have you been restoring Norende? Because the special moves shops in Norende make your special moves super powerful. Stick a 50% restore, 50% power boost, 2BP boost onto Rejuvenate, and you have an instant full heal + BP booster. I tended to unleash one special move for a character, turn the battle speed up and allow the song to play almost all the way. The, when you think the song is going to end, activate the next character's special that turn, as the stat boosts from specials chain as long as any song is going. So if you can chain special moves and drag them out as long as possible before activating the next one, you'll be buffed for a great deal of time.

I'm trying to recall back to how I defeated Mehpilia and Einheria... I remember Mephilia's summoning doing massive damage... but I recall I ended up beating her so quickly once I tried again that she didn't even really have time to summon...
All I can really recommend is perhaps awakening the Water Crystal and leveling a little more in the next chapter and then returning to Florem. The Asterisk bosses don't disappear, so you don't need to worry about that. And really, the Summoner and Valkyrie Asterisks are pretty useless in the long run. It's the Hunter and the fourth one you get in Florem that I found quite useful.

Oh, and just a heads up... If you're having trouble against the Bloodrose Legion, then the next group is going to REALLY push you... They have some real nasties in their ranks...

Sorry about the long reply! I hope I helped some how!

she's only crazy because fairy toxins "enhanced desires" and made her "murderous" Β (quotes by Mephilia)
she's a lot more sane in the later chapters.

It's actually suggested by Yulyana that she's had a bad case of the crazies since before the fairy fiasco, possibly due to the death of her lover.

No, since if Mephillia got her hands on Airy, AngΓ©s would have a new hair clip. And a bout of heroic BSOD.

*cries in a corner* I need this gameeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...... I already liked the character designs already but now the bosses look cool too!? Geez..... And if it beat Kid Icarus in your favorite game.... it's gotta be good.

But yeah the way you drew the bosses here certainly makes them look interesting! Keep it up!

The bosses really are interesting in this game! While you may think they come and go quite quickly without any of their character or background being explained... just... be patient. They get fleshed out eventually!

I remember liking Hope in 13... kinda.
But Fang and Vanille... uuuggghhh

Too bad they pretty much threw the stories of the characters out the window in Lightning Returns. Same character models, different characters, I reakon.

Letdragon In reply to J-RuIVI [2014-03-11 03:38:58 +0000 UTC]

Fang was more tolerable than Vanille really. But I understand the idea behind Vanille trying to keep a secret hidden. Her bubbly anime girl vibe is probably what put everyone off though.Β

I wouldn't know. I haven't played it yet. Can't really afford to be buying games with things as they are currently.Β

In actuality, and this probably sounds really stupid, I think the completely overdone Australian accent was one of the reasons I disliked them the most. It may be cute and a novelty to people from other countries to hear it, but for me (and everyone I ask about it around here) it was terribly overdone and extremely annoying. As you can probably tell, I'm not the biggest fan of my own accent, lol.

I wouldn't rush into buying it too hastily. It's not the best thought out game of all time...

I wouldn't know. This is the first time you've ever mentioned that to me. X3

I figure since it's not receiving much praise. I only want it so I can wrap up the XIII trilogy once and for all, though I've already heard a lot of dislike for the "convoluted finale".Β
