Monica leapt up on the turnbuckle, pumping her fists and screaming ecstatically. The crowd roared its approval.
Meanwhile, I remained curled up, desperately trying to recover from her attacks.
I was winded, I was in pain, and above all, I was humiliated. This was supposed to be a squash match! As in, ME doing the squashing, not her! When I joined Dazzle, Sharon had promised me a strong push. Nobody would be throwing matches, of course, but I'd be given ample air-time and easy opportunities to build up my image with the fans.
Maybe I had been lied to...or maybe jobbers were a lot tougher up here in the big leagues. Either way, I had to turn this thing around. I slowly managed to drag myself to my knees, and looked across the ring at my opponent.
Monica was still turned away from me, soaking in the cheers, totally inebriated by her new-found popularity.
I'm not normally a dirty fighter...but desperate times call for desperate measures.
