Great capture!
Certainly one of the most beautiful species in Europe (that i'm aware of).
I don't think i've ever seen one in real life though.

I know. I think i'm going to ask our bio-geography professor where (and when) to find the Apollon. He's quite fond of butterflies.

The Apollon flies from may to august-september, in one generation. It prefers rocky slopes, especially between 1000 and 2000m. It particularly likes thistles flowers.
Anyway, It is a very localized species.
I'm sure your bio-geography professor will tell tou where and when to find this wonderful butterfly in Switzerland.
