The japanese name "アースロケ(Aa Su Ro Ke)" means arthropod rocket. In case you didn't know, the idea is based on a special phenomenon called "spider rain" in Australia. Only here it's more formidable, a combination of rocket bomb with spider must be terrifying to some people. Well...I think at least Arachnade is pretty cute, Spidrop isn't that bad either~right?
You see~many people think it makes no sense that Gyarados has flying type, and you can see all Bug/flying have wings. So to begin with I was really excited when I decided to give a spider flying type for all the reasons. Not only did it present the falling terror concept, but the kinda "stupidly" matching idea of a certain point of view. Yes~it raids from sky so it's flying type~deal with it...that kinda feeling.
Moreover~if you saw what I put in the dex entries for both Arachnade and Spidrop, I hope you can also catch that little dark and funny jokes in there. People do like to judge some of the weird statements in the dex, though sometimes it's for fun. However I do think when I'm designing these, only stuff like this can make me feel that this's indeed a Pokemon.
