Description Personally, I think I prefer wolf howls to coyote howls. Both have a certain raw nature to them, but there's more savage about the wolf's voice. Still, a good looking shot.

I agree; it is a great shot!  You gotta love a howl shot!

I've never actually heard a Coyote howl (in fact, I only found out they howl a couple of days ago!)
Is there a big difference or is it rather minor (Going to listen for myself when I can)

And nice photo, as always!

It's a huge difference. Coyotes have a very high pitched vocalizations with barks and howls. If they were human, I'd say they would be around Soprano or Countertenor. Wolves are much deeper around the Baritone or Contralto range for most of the wolves I've heard. The wolves also seem to carry their notes longer but I don't think that's an actual scientific fact, it just seems that way to me.

Woah I just found one on youtube now and I see what you mean! It sounded very erratic and sporadic with the changes in tone and pitch whereas the wolves I've heard were much smoother and mature sounding. Thanks for the reply, it's quite interesting but my cat would argue otherwise, he looked very startled when I played it out loud
