Peyto Lake, Alberta, Canada.I've been excessively busy all summer, hence my lack of postings lately. Here's something I managed to grab this weekend after 10 hours of driving all over the place (ran in a 10K race this weekend, so the photo was a bonus, I was planning on only resting and running!) from the Shuswap, to Canmore, back to Lake Louise and up the Icefields Parkway to watch the Northern Lights dance above Peyto Lake. I've never seen aurora in the mountains before, so I was pretty danged stoked to see it that night. I have better shots of the aurora from a different composition, but was kind of partial to the star trails here. More to follow....eventually!

This photo is a stack of 9 photos all taken at something like a 25-30 second exposure. The reason I stack rather than do one long exposure, is to prevent noise from my sensor heating up. Thanks for the comment!

Ah, that explains it. Stacked 'em in Adobe or another piece of software? I'm learning digital photography's finer points this year, and pieces like this are hugely inspiring!

Yes, stacked them in Photoshop and changed all layers to "lighten" for the blend mode.

Was the 10k in Canmore? A year ago I was making plans to do the half marathon there, and then spend a couple of weeks in Banff & Jasper. But those plans got derailed by my job. :-/ Maybe next year.

Yes the 10k was in Canmore, and it's the race you're talking about. Those plans sound awesome. If you do it, you'll be going at an epic time for autumn colours!
