Description "If I must die, I will encounter darkness as a bride, and hug it in my arms."

Lets continue our Disney/Warner Bros. 100th Anniversary celebration with this series based on the classic story that follows the adventures of a young boy who never grew up as he faces a ruthless pirate and his crew: Peter Pan and the Pirates.

The series follows the adventures of Peter Pan and his friends such as Wendy Darling and her brothers, Tinkerbell, and the Lost Boys as they travel and have adventures all across Neverland.
And in doing so, they often get themselves into danger, mostly by encountering the ruthless Captain Hook and his pirate crew.

The writing for this show is pretty solid as it may possibly the closest animated "Peter Pan" project to stick pretty close to the original classic J.M. Barrie story with it's more dark and adult tone while still making it enjoyable for kids, while also expanding on some of the ideas from the book. And has some great world-building throughout all the adventures that they have in Neverland. And on top of that, there's a great sense of adventure, the action's pretty solid for what it is, there's some good heart to it, and there is some decent comedy too. And also, the show discusses some heavy and mature themes, which for a kids show back in 1990, is pretty groundbreaking. However, the biggest problem with the series is that the episodes were aired out of order and shuffled around all over the place.
If there is one episode i highly encourage you go and check out, it's "Ages of Pan" as Peter decides he wants to grow up and live a more normal life, unaware that Neverland is fading away due to him losing his belief in magic. So basically, it's kinda like "Hook".
The action scenes are pretty good for a 1990 kids show, and they do provide it with some excitement such as Peter and his friends taking on Hook and his crew, escaping from certain death, getting out of tight jams, and encountering all sorts of other dangers.
The show also has some pretty good heart which does result in some pretty tender moments like Peter's struggling to remember his past life, Wendy meeting her future daughter, and Peter deciding he wants to grow up, and the unintended consequences of that decision.
The show also has a pretty solid sense of humor which does lead to some pretty funny moments like the witty banter and dialogue between the characters, some of the more wacky shenanigans they get into, and some of the gags.
The animation is pretty good for an animated series from 1990. And keep in mind, this was before "Rugrats", "Ren and Stimpy", and "Batman". The characters all have pretty solid designs and some decently fluid movements, the backgrounds are very nicely done and do look very pretty, and there are some pretty great effects.
The characters are all very likable and have some very strong chemistry and dynamics.
Peter is a very solid and likable protagonist as while he can be very stubborn and impatient, he is still a kid, and kids can be stubborn and impatient. But it never gets to the point he becomes unlikable, and he does genuinely care for his friends like Wendy, the Lost Boys, and Tinkerbell.
And speaking of those characters, they're also very likable and are pretty solid supporting characters like Wendy being the most level-headed of the group, Tinkerbell being the most fiery and hot-headed, the Lost Boys being very adventurous and loyal, and the Darling brothers John and Michael being very wide-eyed and curious. There's also some other characters that are also pretty likable like Tiger Lilly and the Indians, Alde Baran, Olook, Captain Patch, and the Mermaids.
Captain Hook is a very awesome villain as while he can be very ruthless and determined to see Peter and his allies dead, he can also be pretty sophisticated and can be willing to let someone go if someone does a task for him. He's both egotistical, but still has some ethics to him. And his crew are pretty solid minor villains.
The voice acting is very solid and does result in some great performances like Jason Marsden as Peter, Tim Curry as Hook, Debi DerryBerry as Tinkerbell, Christina Lange as Wendy, and many more.
The music for this series is very well composed, and really does capture the show's adventurous, lighthearted, and heartfelt tone.

Overall, this may be the best adaptation of Peter Pan since the Disney version, and it would be followed by other great Peter Pan stories in the following years like "Hook" and the 2003 Universal film. Sadly, there's no DVD release of it, and only a small handful of VHS releases. Thankfully, all the episodes are currently available on YouTube. So go check out as many episodes as you can. It's really worth it.
