Actually they had just started.
As soon as I passed them and realized what I just saw..
I turned around,set the exposure..took a really deep breath.
took a couple of sips of rum and went right up to them and fired two shots.

This is such a great shot. The tension and secretiveness is so clear, even before you notice the needles. It's so perfect that the guy in the back is in yellow--the color and direct gaze catch your eye so quickly, despite the fact that the focus is towards the front. It leads to a really nice progression of the eye through the picture--and I personally didn't notice the needles until last, which makes the danger sort of sudden and shocking. Anyway, the lighting and focus is really nice for the picture, too.
This is a very real shot, so very journalistic. Just awesome.
